i bought a aeron lookalike mesh chair from costco for $150 bucks. A year later and it's still like new and very comfy. My other $100 chairs only lasted me about 2 years each, and after 1 year they were pretty beat. i'd say it's 80% of an aeron at 30% of the price. i use an aeron daily at work, so i'm pretty familiar with it.

Is a Aeron the only high end chair you have ever used before?

My company uses Steelcase for all of their chairs. Far better than Aeron.

Do you know what version they use ? I know there is two different versions out there. Not sure if there is a huge difference though.

Couldn't tell ya. I'd have to look at work tomorrow.

I've sat in them for a few long shifts, and they are pretty comfortable. I wouldn't recommend them for a conference room or operations center, though, because:

1) They need to be adjusted in order for them to fit your body properly.
2) If someone farts while sitting in one of these, everyone else WILL know. There is no padding on these things to muffle the sound or absorb the smell like a normal office chair!

How do I know this? Three words... Mexican Food Day 🙂

Number 2 reason is funny but how long does it actually take to adjust a Aeron chair to fit your body properly and does it have to be done every time a different person sits in it ?

Never heard a convincing argument as to why you should drop big bucks for one

Nothing. Horrible chairs that are way overpriced. Tear your clothes.

Yeah, the armrests reach out and grab your pockets...

I have one at work and love it.

Yes, Yes! Damnit! I have a chair that does this also. I have ripped the hell out of maybe four or five pairs of slacks because of arm rests that stick out too far. I prefer an armless chair (and no, I'm not a fatass).

Steelcase Leaps aren't much cheaper than Aerons, if at all. Its really up to the user when deciding between the two.

Add me to the list of "I love my Aeron!" While yes, it is very expensive, but it is worth every cent it is worth. As for comparing Steelcase chairs to Herman Millers, HM are accepted as the best office chairs by professionals. But that being said, you still can't go wrong with a Steelcase.

I think everyone bringing up Leap vs Aeron missed the point of the thread. Then again it's rare anyone reads rather than just spout out what they think they wanted to hear.

Why do you say that? The leap chair always gets talked about in a Aeron thread it seems.

Aeron chair... NOT the most comfortable around if you judge comfort by sitting in a chair for 5 minutes.. However, if you gotta sit down for 4 hours, Aerons are amazing.

Now.. about price.. $800 for a top-of-the-line Aeron chair - that comes with a 12-year warranty. They last forever.

Office Depot chair.. $200 for a middle-of-the-line.. no warranty.. lasts about 2 years at most. So.. over 12 years, you replace the chair 5 times.

Because the OP is:

Most would consider the Leap also big bucks

However; most are just playing advocacy and know nothing of either. Most probably would find themselves sitting in only one of these chairs...most here are now claiming they have been in both, long term, all sizes, etc.

It's like most things, you get dimenishing returns with the more you spend.

Do you think speakers that cost £1k are worth £1k?! They are definately not twice as good as £500 speakers! Probably barely 20-30% better. But people are willing to spend their own money on it.

Koing

Maybe twice as good logarithmically...

12 year warranty. I probably already posted this in this thread, but before I bought mine I did the math. One chiropractor visit per year ($75) for 12 years = $800. Highly-adjustable Aeron with Posturfit from an authorized reseller: $929. One chiropractor visit per year isn't going to do a thing for my back. This chair relieved my back pain very quickly.

amen brother. i just got a used aeron chair off craigslist for $350 and it beats the hell out of all those office depot leather chairs that go on sale. the steelcase leap was really nice too at the store i tried it at.

i'll never go back!

a funny thing is, before i got the aeron chair i went to some store that sells high end chairs (healthy back store). i got the store brand cheap one for $400 w/ a 90 day return policy and brought it home before i found the deal on the aeron chair. about 10 days later when i decide to return it, the store closed down its location near me. i couldn't help but laugh because when i was in the store i was thinking when it would go out of business since it looked like no one was in that store for the entire day. im stuck with both of these chairs for now lol but it seems like their warehouse dept will help me out with the return.

One thing that annoys me about the Aeron is the friggin armrests dropping down after tightening them at a higher up level

We have SteelCase Think chairs here at work. They're not too bad, I just wish I could lock the position of the arm rests. (Well, I can lock the height, but the arm rests can move forward/backwards/left/right)

Are you guys like total fatasses or something because seriously, I used a chair all my 4 years in college and it cost me $70 at Costco. The armrest is slightly coming apart, but this is after 4 years of use. Shrug. My friend used his Ikea office chair for 4 years of college too, and we're all nerds so we spent hours and hours in front of our computers.

Someone in Phoenix is selling 2 Mirras on CL, one of them is sold, I'm going to check out the other one tonight. $250, it's damaged (missing a castor, bad hydraulic piston and a cat has scratched it up), but the pictures didn't look too bad and I think it'll be worth it. 😀
