WTF is an airsoft loadout?

halik

I've come across pictures of men in various armed forces gear, but that's not real (bb guns ?). So confused.

No I get that part,
but it was always pictures of dudes wearing various surplus store stuff and the bb gun. the "loadout" part is what confuses me.

the loadout is all the crap you carry with you into battle for that mission. Urban warriors now post loadout brag threads that include all the stuff they carry like wallets, smart phones, keys, a knife, and the center piece a handgun.

It's a BB gun? More like airhard then, amirite?

Not as dangerous as steel BBs, they are made of plastic.

I went to an airsoft game a couple months back, and it's a different pain than paintball... can't say which one hurts more, but one thing is for sure, you don't want to get hit by either one!

This sort of thing?

Airsoft is generally just BB guns that look like real guns. The higher end ones are actually made of metal or the abs plastic.

The load out is just a term to show the whole gear set up a person has. They might have a load out for wood games and urban warfare type games.

Incredibly lame.

'loadout' generally implies gear to me. i.e. when i play my 'loadout' is usually an m16 on a three point sling, a molle vest and belt, and one kneepad. the bulk of my storage capacity is for extra magazines since i use 'midcaps' (different from the 'highcap' mags which are just boxes of loose BB's, essentially).

paintball guys do the same stuff, but since they're usually carrying paintballs and CO2 (and their gun looks like a shop tool), they don't put as much effort into pretending to be some highspeed military commando.

the funny ones are the airsoft guys with helmets, plate carriers (some idiots even put the plates in), full pads, ACU's that stick out from the woods like blaze orange, ect ect. yeah, you look like you just came from iraq, but you suck at playing this call of duty sim.

I guess it is a bit like LARPing with guns. That said, it actually is a lot of fun. I've played several times with my oldest son and his friends at some local places. It's a bit nerdy, but can be a good time. It's like live action FPS Call of Duty. Most people will hate it and not understand, but it's good all in good fun. I had a lot of fun with him and his friends.

I think to some people it's kind of....disrespectful? Here are a bunch of suburban man-boys "playing" what thousands of men do for real, and often die doing.

I know that sounds smug but there's something about taking Airsoft so seriously that just doesn't sit right with me.

are videogames with the same content disrespectful? imo this is less so since, as i sorta mentioned, most people aren't 'role playing,' they're just playing a game akin to paintball, and i can say from experience that it does indeed function a lot more like call of duty than a simulation. real military tactics will lose out to the tactics of most airsoft vets...which are a hell of a lot closer to those of a typical FPS 'cyberathelete' than a delta operator.

edit- hit calling is honor system. there are marking BB's but they'll mess up higher quality guns. again, it's fairly similar to paintball, since there is a lot of 'honor' there as well- you're gonna play more than one match in a day, and you can't wash your clothes and gear between each one.

How about the armor wearing guys? They could get hit, and never know it. Sounds like fun anyway. I think I'd like that better than paintball(which I also haven't done).

Have a neighbor who's big into Airsoft, he has an MP5 replica gun, it's the size and weight of a real MP5. After adding all the upgrades he spent like $800 on it. It blows my mind how much $$$ a toy gun can cost lol.
