How about the armor wearing guys? They could get hit, and never know it. Sounds like fun anyway. I think I'd like that better than paintball(which I also haven't done).

generally if you get hit in the 'gear' (molle vests and pouches, web belts, tac vest, whatever you're wearing that provides substantial padding) the cue is more visual and audible. if you recieve a burst of fire right in the chest, you probably saw it happen and know who shot you.

it can also be a courtesy to shoot padded areas if you get the drop on someone, since it will turn what could be a lot of pain into nil and still be an obvious hit. personally, i still shoot at a good fleshy area like the ass or thigh and confirm my hit by watching them jump and/or yelp. ;P and if you want to try and not call hits, oh boy, you better wear a full facemask. even then, i'll still give you a whole magazine in the neck if that's what it takes to get someone to call themselves out.

to be honest, and fair for that matter, people may see that airsoft is really really ridiculous. You have all these military uniforms, and you have guns that look real. Then you paintball people, who clearly do not have ANY resemblance to any type of "real" looking guns (except a few) and the "loadout" isn't even close! I guess different strokes for different folks.

I guess if you wanna match realistic looking guns, you gotta have realistic looking gear! I know in CA, the FPS is regulated to 400 for outdoors, and 350 for indoors. They do hurt enough, but I never seen anyone who actually wore kevlar to a game... that would actually be kind of cheating... But knee pads really do help out during a game.

You'll see how many ACTUAL police officers, marines, SWAT people play airsoft. There are quite a bit, and they just use their issued uniforms!

i mean seriously, i don't know if you have paintball in new zealand or not, but you'll have parties in both camps, who will make fun of each group.

One will be like "your gun doesn't look like anything" the other will say "go join the army if you want a real gun".

and with regards on getting shot, it's more like "fuck, i got shot, i don't want to get hit again. This shit really hurts". I've yet to encounter some ass hole who tried to play it off as if they didn't get shot.

And if you're running around with these "toy guns" in military gear, you better be careful because someone WILL mistake you for carrying something real, and they will shoot you on accident. Hence, we're fighting the bill because some idiot 12 year old pointed an airsoft gun at a cop.

tsk tsk.

I think it's enjoyable to an extent. Real guns are more fun to shoot but you can't shoot other people with them.

I think the people who spend $1000 outfitting their airsoft M4's with real gun accessories and who get real uniforms are a bit ridiculous. But whatever floats your boat.

Occasionally I go to an airsoft field that's in the Santa Cruz mountains. I just wear camo pants and a black t-shirt with my $100 electric gun. It's fun every once in a while and I can think of much worse ways to spend a Saturday morning.

It makes a pretty distinctive sound, and when you see BBs bouncing off your gun/gear/body you'll figure it out. :p

yep, you know when you get hit.

the exceptions are very distant shots- you can outrange paintball guns by a good bit, but light BB's through an unrifled barrel are not the most stable thing. they bleed off their velocity fast and are easily affected by wind because of that. it's not hard to get 'sniped' and either totally not feel it, or assume it's a ricochet or some such.

fwiw here's what me and the buddy i play with typically look like. it's just BDU pants, t-shirts, and what we need to carry ammo, water, and other supplies onto the field.

me:
10david.jpg

it was a 2 day game, the face paint is from the previous night where i was attempting to cover all exposed skin (the most obvious giveaway). the shemagh (scarf) helps protect from neck shots and absorbs sweat. i will not wear a full face mask, but if i know i'm going to be charging into CQB i will wear it in this manner:

10mike1.jpg

the longsleeve shirt there is also from the night game, he took that shit off quick during the day. buttpack is full of grenades and smoke, mags and canteen in old alice gear. plate carrier (empty of plates, and a cheap knockoff) mostly just for intimidation and protection, he gave up on molle and just wears simple alice gear now for light weight.

the 'i'm from the internet' picture, i already have saved and find hilarious. yes, i play with people who look like that sometimes. no, they're not necessarily bad people, but i still laugh at them behind their backs. call it hypocritical if you want.

i know there are milsim games out there, which only limit the use of low to mid caps! Gonna try some of these! playing with a GBBR almost needs these types of games to be fair!

if he looks like a tool dressing up and playing with toy guns, then what do people with paintball look like? people dressed up like aliens playing with toy alien guns?

it's not really up to you judge people's hobbies. I'm sure whatever you're into, there's something that can be said as well.

Did you dress up like GI Joe though?

lol fuck no. that shit is retarded.

I mean, I remember being a kid it's fun to dress like army man and paint your face and pretend your a ninja commando or whatever, but I certainly couldn't see myself doing it these days. I'd rather put my money into things like beer and whores.

...er, beer and sluts.

ah fuck...beer and sandwiches.

I'm not gonna lie, paintball is damn fun. I did it once with some buddies. that shit hurts if you get nailed in the right place.

that's the thing, it's damn fun. Hurts like a mother if you get hit in the right place. If people wanna dress up as G.I. Joe, let them. I mean seriously, if you have nothing to add to this thread, then don't. I don't say anything about you fucking sheep...

Like people dressed up in the shittiest clothes they have, because they'll be covered in paint? The guns aren't designed to resemble anything, only to launch paint balls...

Apparently most pellets are biodegradable in ~180 days.

I always thought it would be annoying having thousands of plastic pellets laying around.

I guess to each his own... some people like to shoot with fake guns, and some people like to shoot with real guns. Owning both makes you appreciate the others.

For example, I can just take my airsoft guns and shoot them in the back yard for fun. There's no way I can take my AR and do the same.
