No. "Gaming" requires utilization and the testing of your reflexes and hand-eye-coordination.

Otherwise you could call a secretary who uses Excel 9 hours a day a gamer.

so it is just time? not the game itself?

so if i play minesweeper for 7 hours a day for 39 days in a row, i'll be "hardcore" ?

only one problem......excel isnt a game and it doesnt become a game the longer you use it 😕

I'm a hardcore gamer. But only a level 1 hardcore gamer.

There are many many other people, that I know personally and indirectly who are much more hardcore then myself.

I'll define the levels of hardcore gaming here:

Level 1 - plays games just about everyday, it may only be 30 minutes but its still just about every day
Level 2 - plays games everyday, at least 1-2 hours everyday
Level 3 - plays games everyday, at least 4 hours and up to 8 hours
Level 4 - plays games all day, everyday and has no job (WoW players)

It is the amount of time and the number and variety of games. So just playing minesweeper does not count. They are generally on the bleeding edge of gaming.

hm...really?

I play more than 3 hours a day..but only on certain days...never for the entire week.

am i a hardcore gamer? I like to think I'm pretty dedicated..but hardcore? nah..

have you tried playing the sims at all? if you play at regular speed, you really have to be fast to keep up.

Your definition is weak. What if I play Civilization 4 for 12 hours per day? Not much testing of reflexes or hand-eye coordination there.

That would be a gamer who spend so much time playing games and lives for the thrill of defeating an endless army of opponents.

Well, if Civ IV is real time, then, yes, your reflexes are being tested. Also, the fact that you can pit your skill against another player in competition in a particular game also qualifies it for being a hardcore gamer title.

I don't think the Sims or Tycoon games, for example, qualify. Tycoon is basically CAD with some arbitrary stats.

isn't there a flight sim built into excel as an easter egg?

There's no such thing as a "hardcore gamer". There is nothing about sitting in front of a TV or computer screen and playing games that could be remotely associated with the idea of "hardcore".
