We established a colony on Venus in the mid-80's...but global thermonuclear war ended that experiment.
Everyone knows this.
Yeah...but the Mars rovers lasted a tiny bit longer. (Years, rather than minutes or hours.)
And I don't think the US ever landed on Venus, at least not anything functional.
Oh, and Curiosity is a big mobile thing, with the ability to ablate small sections of rock, drill into it, and then deliver the powdered remains into an onboard laboratory - also a pretty impressive feat.

The Soviets landed a probe in the US in 1977. If it were not for one man's heroism, y'all would be dead.
Pluto will always be a planet to me dammit!Pluto isn't a planet anymore, just a head up![]()

I thought this was common knowledge, outside of christian households anyway.
Precisely. There's a reason the Venus probe didn't last long, because of the thick Venusian atmosphere the pressure is 92 times ours, around 1400 PSI at the surface, the average mean temperature is around 820 degrees and has clouds consisting mostly of sulfuric acid. Not a friendly place, even for a machine, it was quite an accomplishment for the USSR with early 1970's technology..
Most American's don't know that Russia won just about every single race/record in space PRIOR to US moon landing.
The most incredible thing is HOW they did it.
US had 150k people and BILLIONS of dollars on the space program. While Russia had 1500 and almost NO BUDGET. Their engineers lived in unheated housing and had cardboard and pencils to draw on.
What they have accomplished is simply incredible given the conditions/budget.
It was overshadowed by the Moon landing. That's when they cancelled everything. When they went to destroy all of the equipment people say Russians could've made it to the moon and back # of times with the stuff they had.
Also, there is many skeptics about the entire moon landing......due to the coincidence. Imagine 90s Chicago Bulls or Miami Heat winning every single game during the season only to lose the final.....
Personally I believe US made it to the moon, but I'm not sure I believe they did it when they say they did. Sounds too good to be true based on their prior accomplishments in space.
:Flame suit on:
They're idiots. The moon landing conspiracies have been debunked as, well... complete bunk.

Not really. It was during the Gemini program that NASA really pulled ahead of the soviets. Orbital rendezvous and how to perform real work during EVAs (I know that Alexei Leonov did the first spacewalk but that was a stunt that almost killed him) were the two biggies. Gemini and Skylab were overshadowed by Apollo but both programs were pretty amazing in their own right.
What are you talking about? The US had the entire Mercury and Gemini programs as well as numerous Apollo test flights before we landed anyone on the moon.
