With all the fuss about the recent Mars landing, I thought it was a great feat since the manned moon landing.
Venus almost as far as Mars from Earth. Venus is 38 million km when closest to Earth. Mars is 50-70 million km.
And both US and Soviet landed on Venus numerous times wayyyy back starting from late 70's.
In 1983, Soviet Venera 13 sent back pictures while surviving the 860 F heat for couple hours.
Pretty awesome. Freakin' news to me, and I'm sure same goes for your average populace.
