WTF I DROPPED MY IPOD IN THE URINAL

This morning at work, I was listening to my iPod Shuffle when I was right about to do my biz in front of a urinal....

Then a terrible thing happened.

My hand got caught in the headphone wire on the way to the zipper and popped the iPod out of its clip and sprung free from my belt & headphone plug. The thing spun like a roulette in mid air and plopped just perfectly into the urinal hole. I could not believe this. Right before my eyes, the Shuffle was completely submerged in the urinal hole, about three inches deep.

A rush of frustration and anger flooded into me for my stupidity. I got so freakin' mad that I didn't want to just call off my Shuffle and leave. In the heat of the moment, I took my freakin' hand in there and started to claw at my shuffle to pick it up. The urinal hole was not previously flushed. It was bright yellow with my hand all the way into my wrist.

I took it out and washed my hands and the iPod with soap for about 15 mins. I was so mad, I just wanted to hope if it would work after drying it out. A hope in vain.

But guess what? I noticed the green light on the Shuffle while I was washing it. I was like WTF??? I quickly plugged in my headphone in disbelief. And there it was. It was playing the very last song I was listening to! I came back to my cubicle bit flabbergasted and confused. It's working perfectly... after being completely submerged in piss for an extended time. Even the headphone hole was left open.

What happened?

Ehh, its not surprising. I've had lots of electronics that have survived extended dips in water. The shuffle is a pretty simple piece of technology, so it would have a decent chance of surviving underwater.

But how? The water didn't go in there because of the tight casing or the circuitry inside can actually resist water?

Either way baffles me.

Because electronics are not Superman and water is not kryptonite. Just being wet doesn't necessarily damage something. Short circuits and corrosion are what mess up electronics

An appropriate Topic Summary should read something like:

Topic Summary: Pissed Off

Just out of curiosity; if someone dared you to stick your hand into an unflushed urinal how much $ would they have to offer you?

i once had a stylus from a Microsoft PDA drop into the toilet while i was taking a dump. Needless to say, i willingly let that stylus flush away

Never again will i use a PDA or any electronic device while on the throne.

Jesus... how can you live with yourself! I would have wrote it off immediately and left it there. That or pick it up and cut off/burn hand. Soap even for an hour wouldn't be enough:(.

This thread has so much potential for future enjoyment, it's not even funny.

Who knows what other random things will find their way into urinal holes in the future? Perhaps spiders will pop out of them?

I'm not a germophobe. No matter how mentally disgusting it may be (and I agree with you), piss is a piss. Yours or mine. It's sterile, non-toxic, and not a threat to your health.

I know it's fucking disgusting but my logical side knows that all it takes is just washing your hands with soap thoroughly. As with anything else.

Id stick my hand in the urinal for $20. It's just piss and maybe some spit. Nothing a little soap wont take care of.

If I were you though, id be a little worried about stuff corroding. It might work fine now, but in a week or two once its all dried out, it might start to get flaky.
