Just got around to watching it and it was decent but my main issue was how pathetic their body armor was.

The female judge took two other judges out with a normal gun in the chest area where you would think it would had been the strongest.

yeah i thought that was stupid.
but like in the movie mr + mrs smith, body armor doesnt work for the bad guys.

I watched it last week and enjoyed it for the most part. I am relieved to hear that it predated The Raid - Redemption, because it's certainly similar in many ways and I liked it a lot better than The Raid.

Just watched Dredd, it's a pretty darn good movie. Was expecting a lame movie like that Total Recall reboot but this movie was surprisingly good. Too bad this movie bombed at the box office.

I watched it the other day as well, and while it was a serviceable action movie, it was really limited in its scope. Overall, I'd say that I was disappointed because it could have been much more than what it was.

It may have bombed at the box office, but it might still be successful in disc and online sales.

Thanks for reminding me to buy this. I think I'll drop by Fry's later today.

I understand what you mean, but you never see where the female judge is shot. She just drops to the ground. And if you pay attention, all the bullets that pierced Lex came out of his neck and arm where there was no armor. Judges are highly trained so she may have known what she was doing shooting through the armor. Though the likelihood of instantly dying without a shot to the head is pretty small I'd think.

Or maybe it's not ballistic armor at all, and is just motorcycle leather/riot padding. Kevlar vests don't have a zipper down the middle.

weird how you never see dredd's face. i bet the actor wasn't happy with that decision.

Hell no.

Major reason people hated the first movie was that Stallone took his damn helmet off. Dredd NEVER takes his helmet off.

Major decision for choose Urban was because they were trying to find a distinctive chin. Before the movie came out, pepole were asking "will the chin be a chin good enough for dredd?"

Actor knew exactly what was happening

So, I finally saw the movie. To my surprise I enjoyed it. It was a rather simple premise, but they executed it well. This is in contrast to Prometheus where I think they aimed higher but didn't quite get there.

I saw it in 2D, and found some of the slow mo scenes a bit too targeted to 3d though. I hate 3D movies, and never go see them in 3D because they give me wicked headaches.

Also I think mama may have been miscast. She was Sarah Conner and Cersei Lannister. Lena Headley isn't harsh enough for the role, or at least didn't play it harsh enough. Also, I would have preferred if Olivia Thirlby character, Anderson, were tougher. She seemed a bit too lightweight as portrayed, even for a rookie Judge.

Note though I don't know how that applies to the comic book characters, as I have never read the comic book. I have never seen the original Dredd either.

Actually, this was intended right from the start, so Karl Urban would have known in advance before even taking the job. And it's not as if Karl Urban is some two-bit action actor either. He had already been in Star Trek and Lord of the Rings, among other things.

We all knew it was Carl Urban. :colbert:

I was actually annoyed by the stupid excuse for revealing little Miss Eye Candy's face.
Same here, but at least they acknowledged it with Dredd's amusing comment. I was thinking the same thing.

Quite possibly. It's not explicably said either way but I think it is supposed to be ballistics armor.

He's actually been in quite a number of things. I like him as an actor.

At least from the Internet research that I did, it appears that she rarely ever wears a helmet in any comic series. So, her not wearing a helmet is probably accurate. Also, I believe one of the automatic fails mentioned earlier in the movie was forgetting your helmet, so that might explain why he commented on it. If he didn't, the nerds would probably scream, "She should have failed already!!" She is a psychic, so she would be a considerably weaker asset without her ability.
