This movie was pretty good. I watched it through...*ahem* questionable means, and liked it so much that after I watched it I preordered the 3D blu ray. I could tell by the 2D version that some scenes would look spectacular in 3D.

After seeing the preview link above, there is no question they ripped off "The Raid - Redemption" .....which is a great action movie that ATOTers should be familiar with...

except it didn't

Isn't this just ripping off The Raid?
No. Dredd was written and filmed long before The Raid. Dredd's screenplay was written in 2008 and leaked online in 2010. Principal photography on Dredd took place between November and December 2010. The Raid did not go into production until November 2010, and was filmed in March 2011. Until the Summer of 2010, Raid director Gareth Evans had been planning to make an entirely different film and put The Raid together over the next nine months.

Saw it in the cinemas and really enjoyed it. Much better than the original.

Koing

the stallone movie wasn't the original. they are just two movies based on the same source material.

watched the 1st 15min so far. not bad.
altho it might be another total recall. it's not Stallone as Dredd (as it's not Swetzenegger in the new total recall).

and there are mutants now in the Dredd universe? uugg.. I'm expecting optic blast eye beams in the sequel

The new Dredd movie is much better than the old Stallone one.

The new Total Recall movie however was inferior to the old one.

Nuclear fallout's a bitch. :p

I actually need to watch it again. The Blu-Ray release has some great ratings, and I picked up the 3D release for only $20 (not bad).

IMO the biggest issue with the new TR was Colin Farrell. I liked the movie but he just didn't seem like a good fit.

I saw it recently. It was just ok in my opinion. Better than the Stallone one for sure, but still pretty cheesy.

There's all kinds of shit in the Dredd universe. I don't think you know the Dredd universe as well as you think you do.

He is an awful actor.

Dredd was enjoyable. Some of the killing scenes would look great in 3D.

oh yeah.. nice fx.
still wouldnt have paid full price to see it in the theaters, much less extra for 3D

Those scenes (I'm thinking you're talking of the "slo-mo" scenes) are amazing in 3D. I insisted on seeing it in 3D in the theaters because of them. Of course I'm one of those people who really liked the movie.

I saw the previews a few months back during another action move, and it looked and sounded like trash. Actors looked boring and everything was ridiculously excessive. I too, would be surprised that this was anything different than a money grab.

This movie has already been in theaters and is now out on DVD, why are you calling it a cash grab Regs when it has gotten good reviews?

I'm surprised it got good reviews is all. I haven't seen it on Blue Ray, but I'll see if I can stream it.

except for the part where he's out of ammo... come on...
why didnt he just take at least 1 mag from the other Judge?!

I think eventually he did, but when he ran out of ammo it was during the fight with a Judge.

Hah and then he reloads his weapon that has like 300 shots of various types of rounds with a Glock magazine.

no.. before the encounter in the drug lab when he meets the male judge for the 1st time in the corridors.
b4 that scene, it showed him looking at his gun and it saying he was low on ammo. (and it presummably was his last mag.)

When he fought with the first Judge, that Judge's gun fell down a shaft or something. And the other two Judges showed up before the first Judge hit the ground before he died. Its reasonable to think Dredd didnt have enough time to get clips off his body. But I see where you are coming from...they could have used some other plot device to level the field with the final fight between Judges.

I didn't not like it.

It had a SyFy made for TV feel to it, with better special effects and more violence. Somehow it didn't feel like a real whole movie. I kept thinking that the scenario that the entire movie took place in should have been a short segment as an introduction to the characters and then the movie should have moved on to a larger plot. I feel like I watched an episode of Dredd: The Television Series rather than Dredd: The Movie.

Still, it wasn't a bad way to pass 95 minutes.

Just got around to watching it and it was decent but my main issue was how pathetic their body armor was.

The female judge took two other judges out with a normal gun in the chest area where you would think it would had been the strongest.
