Well this is a surprise.

I was looking on Rotten Tomatoes to see upcoming movies and release dates and saw the the Judge Dredd "reboot" is coming out soon and it actually has a 100% positive critic review rating for the early reviews coming in.

Did not see that coming at all.

I expected a Total Recall reboot result.

The trailer came up as a pop-up or something on Youtube and I watched it. I liked it...

Plenty of these movies start like this, most of the early reviews from fanboys and random critics. It'll drop, though the trailer does look cool. I like the style, hopefully it isn't too corny

Personally I'm looking forward to it. I was a huge fan of the books back in the 80s, and I hear this follows that format rather than the Rob Schneider cluster

Didn't even know this was coming out.

I just watched the trailer, and had a big smirk through it. I'll be watching this.

I actually rewatched that one last weekend on Cinemax or something. I was surprised that it wasn't nearly as terrible as I remember.

I mean it was bad, but I wasn't embarrassed like I remember being walking out of the theater when it came out.

I love me some Lena Headey, sexy sexy lady. But I always thought it would be a decent flick based on the trailer. Seems like a nice spin on an old story.

No top critics yet, will be more interested to see what they say, though it sounds like it may have a bit of Punisher War Zone in it and if so I am totally in as long as I can see it in 2D.

The original Judge Dredd was terrible (which is why I loved it). It can only go up

The movie was shown in it's entirety at this year's Comic Con, and reports are that the audience loved it.

Yeah, the first movie didn't set a very high bar.

It had Silvester Stalone when he was still hot, and Sandra Bullock or a lookalike... Or am I thinking of Demolition Man?

Good times back then when just having a star made the movie watchable.

This always happens. It is a fact that films with a fresh rating on average score better at the box office per theater than those rated rotten. Studios know this and try to game the system. Studios screen movies for critics that have a reputation for either liking the genre or studios previous works while leaving the critics with a history of scorning similar flicks out of the loop until they are able to see the film on release day with everyone else at a regular theater.

It is done to create the "perception" that a movie is better received for the all important opening weekend than it really will be once all the critics have had their say. (The opening weekend is critical in not just the biggest pay out a movie will see, but in often setting the pace for returns in the weeks to come) Another common tactic is not screening films for critics at all if the studio knows for a fact their product is pure shit. Whenever you're interested in a movie and there isn't a single review for it on Rotten Tomatoes 2-3 days before release is the time to hit the steer clear button.

Eh, the movie comes out in over two weeks (9/21), so I wouldn't worry about any selective screening just yet. We already had that with the good reviews coming out of Comic-Con.

After seeing the preview link above, there is no question they ripped off "The Raid - Redemption" .....which is a great action movie that ATOTers should be familiar with...

Interesting that "3D" Is prominent in the title. I wonder if that means something in regards to the quality of the storytelling, characters, plot.

Dredd began as a project, with the script that it has, long before the Raid was even so concieved so although the premise is quite similar for both films it's not really technically right to call it a rip-off.
