Seriously... it was on Netflix and I've been meaning to watch it. I had to look past the goofy costumes, ridiculous hair and odd makeup because it was the 80s, but the movie still sucked hard. Now I know I shouldn't compare it to the book as they don't even share the same name (I'm assuming to keep them as separate as possible) but it's hard to look over how awful the movie ending was in comparison. I struggled through the end just to see how it all turned out, but I really should have just turned it off the first time it crossed my mind.

What a fucking waste of time.

Hell if I know, whatever Netflix instant watch has. I want to say I remember seeing "Theatrical Cut" when I was starting it.

the directors cut is better.
mostly its notable for the visual style which has seeped into more recent films and culture so watching it now might not be as novel.
it looks good in bluray.

Agreed.

Not to mention a very hot 37 year old Joanna Cassidy as an exotic dancer.
btw it was her own personal snake.

Bluray is much better. They did an excellent digital restoration of the original film, and you can actually see what the fuck everything is.

On VHS the movie just looks like a mess.

Yea, Ridley Scott did create a certain "style" with his sets, lightning and such but damm, the performance of Rutger Hauer is just incredible and what makes the movie more significant today is that it won't be long before this won't be science fiction, the ability to "create" someone with specific genetic traits will exist and humanity will have to deal with the moral dilemma that goes along with it..

I remember kinda going WTF toward the end, but still enjoyed the movie. I believe I own the Director's Cut DVD (I know there's like 8 versions or something and people argue about which is the best, I believe the Blu-Ray was supposed to be very good and be the definitive version as well).

The early part was kinda slow and surreal, but I liked it, and then the action picks up and then the ending just gets weird.

Something that hurts it watching it now is there's been about 8 billion movies with a similar theme and attempt at the same style, and so you can't really get the full impact of it from when it originally came out. It also is quirky, but I think that's part of the appeal, so many sci-fi now is just by rote and you're stuck with gimmicks, horror, or just soulless mess.

what is blade runner actually about?

It's about people who were "created" to to fulfill certain jobs that no one else wanted, and all had a four year life span as a fail safe in case they got too antsy, in the move a group of them return to earth to meet the "maker" (genetic designer) to get him to extend the life span so they could have a future instead of a short planned obsolescence..

Lot's of people didn't like the original with the Harrison ford voice over but I actually preferred it although I'm way in the minority on this..

It's one of the best sci fi movies of all time, and popularized the genre for millions of fans.

I like the director's cut the best.

Huh? why don't you just watch the film, nothing "gay" about it but then again you might lack the necessary IQ to appreciate it's meaning..

relax i was joking.

I tried to watch it years ago but i fell asleep

OK, but seriously, it's well worth a watch although it moves slowly at times and it's Sci-fi without planetary combat ect. Based on the novel "Do androids dream of electric sheep" by Philip K. Dick who was among the best Sci-fi writers ever..
