I knew there were a lot of different versions but I didn't know how many and if there were THAT big of differences. If there's a version that changes the final android chase/fight scene that would be the best, as that was by far the stupidest part. I didn't care for the narration either, so the version without that would be better already.

Theatrical, Director's and Final Director's Cut, IIRC.

Director's has no voice over. Final probably doesn't either...haven't watched it yet.

According to that the voice over was removed in both later versions. The ending appears to be relatively unchanged though which is a bummer.

I don't think it would have made much sense to change the ending, and it was a big part of what made the movie. Its weird, but I think its actually quite good. In fact, until the ending, I wasn't really understanding how it was considered so highly, but it really has an impact that puts it beyond typical sci-fi fodder.

Seriously... it was on Netflix and I've been meaning to watch it. I had to look past the goofy costumes, ridiculous hair and odd makeup because it was the 80s, but the movie still sucked hard. Now I know I shouldn't compare it to the book as they don't even share the same name (I'm assuming to keep them as separate as possible) but it's hard to look over how awful the movie ending was in comparison. I struggled through the end just to see how it all turned out, but I really should have just turned it off the first time it crossed my mind.

What a fucking waste of time.

:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::mad:
Actually, you wasted your own time watching the movie, as already stated, and then you wasted more of your time talking online about it.

Sounds like you have a lot of free time.

I think the android chasing thing lasted way too long and IMO didn't fit much with the rest of the movie. *shrugs* I dunno, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

I think it's one of the best scifi movies of all time. It does a great job at presenting out the future will really be - gritty, dirty, and very crowded.

Honestly I felt the movie to be pretty dry and boring. Sure it had great visuals, but those don't make up for a story that was dragged on and on.

And best scifi of all time? Really? Scifi is my favorite genre, and Blade Runner wouldn't make my top 10. I'd rather watch Event Horizon over Blade Runner.

I'd agree, though for me the great visuals did _nearly_ make up for the dullness of the story. On the big screen the visuals really were quite powerful. Its not something I could be bothered to watch again though, certainly not on the small screen.

Feel the same way about 2001, only even more so. First time I saw that, at the cinema, it blew me away, I thought it was awesome. When I've seen it since (on the small screen) I've found it really dull. The acting and the storyline are rather slow, almost soporific, yet somehow the first time it was amazing to see it, kind of trippy.

(However, I've never liked Star Wars, either on first viewing or since.)

Star Wars is all right. Sunshine for me is in the top 10 but most people I talk to have never heard of it. Same with Primer and you have to admit the visuals for that movie are non-existent down to the homeless shelter time machine. Story means a lot more to me, that's the root of scifi. I love visuals just as much as the next guy though. TRON Legacy is going to be the most visually stunning film this year and I'm betting on it being movie of the year. Though I really don't know what else it will compete with besides Inception.

Ditto. The movie sets the atmosphere and mood so perfectly to create a believable alternate world where replicants and humans coexist. To those looking for CGI, explosions and fast pace over-the-top action, they really should look elsewhere.

Rutger Hauer delivered one of the most powerful scene culminating the end of a torturous pursuit. I have mixed feelings about Harrison Ford's narrative. While it sets a certain tone akin to old detective movies it, however, kills the mood for Rutger's "Tears in Rain" speech. Thus, the DC of the film is superior to the original in that respect. But with the narrative completely removed seems like it leaves first time viewers confused in earlier scenes.

I understand that personal tastes are going to vary across the board. Not everyone is going to enjoy a classic. Regardless, Blade Runner is one of the most influential sci-fi film ever made. Just as everyone is not going to enjoy The Godfather, I wouldn't expect everyone to enjoy this film either.
