With the right card, you don't cash in. Your cards are for the $200 Walkman worth $2.

There has got to be a common denominator that understands what they are signing up for.

If you drop that to those that didn't know better, everything gets screwed up.

Mistakes are sad, but shouldn't define our existence.

I don't what you're trying to tell me here. I already said in my post that I know my card isn't a good rewards card. I never got it for the rewards.

I don't understand the debit card thing. much more liability and much less rewards. am I missing something?

because paying with a credit card cost .10 cents more per gallon and Id rather pay it and be done than have to worry about a bill coming in. I hate bills coming in and I have no interest in using credit cards or jerking off to their stupid rewards.

sit down once a month and pay bills before the statement closing date, totaling approximately 2 minutes of your life per month. Very unreasonable expectation. Why should someone be responsible for their finances?!

Typical American.!

paying cash and having no bills is not financially responsible but carrying a credit card balance is? lol wtf dude.

*at SOME gas stations. Many gas stations charge the same price for cash or credit which is usually the same as the cash price of the stations that charge more for credit.

I'm sorry Fritzo for contributing to turning this into a shitshow :(

It's the same argument that starts anytime a debit or credit card is mentioned.

Back on topic, I think $150 may be a little much. I usually see signs for $75-$125. Maybe people were complaining about have to make two transactions for one fill up. Makes since with prices going up and lots of trucks/RVs/boats needing gas.

Say I take $100 out, need to fill up my car? That's $40. Need to get some groceries? $50? Who knows maybe I want to spend more but I'm limited by the cash I have on hand. With my card I can just charge it and not be adding things in my head walking up to the register. It's just more convenient.

thats 100% lazy right there.

Pixel, Just an FYI for you. Costco in Wayne, NJ is moving to where the old Fortunoff's used to be. Same lot as Olive Garden and JC Penny. The mall is also getting a Dicks Sporting Goods in the same place. Construction is well under way.

I never use checks to buy things. Just to pay bills. I can not stand debit cards, when a credit card is much better, gives more time to pay it and offers cash rewards back. Costco's biggest issue is the fact they only take AMEX ... the payment terms for AMEX are worse than a regular credit card and it has a yearly fee. No thanks.

Cool. Pretty much the same place. I wonder if they are moving to get more space or because of the flooding in their parking lot when it rains a ton.

I like debit for now because I just started a new career, have limited funds and want to only spend what I have. I only have cash on me when I go to a gas station because I hate the $1 pre-auth and it takes days to actually reflect the actual amount comoing out. Even though I have a nice cushion in my checking account I still like to know the exact balance at all times. The only other time for cash is when going to a bar.

However, my credit score was 540 in January, got it up to 655 now, and I have 1 more item on my credit report coming off this July - I had 2 debt collectors trying to collect the same debt, I paid one off, told the other that I had already paid that, they said they would investigate and call me within 5 days if they felt they had to collect. That was weeks ago.

I figure my credit will go to 700, then I'll get a credit card, start using that for rewards and to build my credit further. I heard capitol one is the best for rewards? What recs do y'all have for a first card with good terms and good rewards?

With gas prices over $4/gallon and the average fullsize truck/Stupid Useless Vehicle holding 26 gallons of gas $100 just doesn't cut it.

They are moving because the new area has a lot more parking. Building size may be a bit bigger as well. And yes, that parking lot by Penny's and Olive Garden can flood. The whole of Willowbrook Mall is pretty low, relative to the streams and such nearby.

Seriously. In CA they clearly advertise the cash/credit price if it's different.

:confused: I'm pretty sure they advertise it everywhere.

Maybe my post was confusing? Let me clarify. About half the stations in our area have one price regardless of payment method. That price is usually the same as the cash price of the stations that use the cash/credit scam.

Nope. Most places aren't allowed to have a different price for cash vs. credit. The CC Merchant's Agreement says that there can be no minimum purchase, no additional charge, etc because the more convenient it is for the customers to use credit then the more transaction fees they get. Some rule changes a few years ago but CA was already like that so they musr have some local regulation that overrides the CC Merchant Agreement.

Nope. Most places aren't allowed to have a different price for cash vs. credit.

That changed for merchants that only take visa and mastercard in 2010:

http://www.justice.gov/atr/public/press_releases/2010/262867.htm
The proposed settlement requires MasterCard and Visa to allow their merchants to:

Offer consumers an immediate discount or rebate or a free or discounted product or service for using a particular credit card network, low-cost card within that network or other form of payment;
Express a preference for the use of a particular credit card network, low-cost card within that network or other form of payment
The CC Merchant's Agreement says that there can be no minimum purchase, no additional charge, etc because the more convenient it is for the customers to use credit then the more transaction fees they get.

As of 2011, merchants are allowed to set minimum purchases.

http://business.ftc.gov/documents/bus78-new-rules-electronic-payments-lower-costs-retailers
PCN = payment card network

A PCN cannot stop you from setting a minimum dollar amount for accepting credit cards for payment as long as the minimum is the same for all credit card issuers and PCNs, and isn't more than $10.

A PCN cannot stop you from offering your customers a discount or another incentive for using a certain method of payment, as long as you offer it to all your customers and disclose the offer clearly and conspicuously.
