Bastards. I should get better than $1.5mbit/sec for $60/month.

Anyways Comcast is suck. I got basic cable cus of the thread I posted a while ago. Well, last week they installed it in the wrong apartment 😀
So I called them about it. Today they came in and "fixed" it. I still get no signal. They are coming on friday again to "fix" it again.

What he said. I think we had it even cheaper with some promotion they had when they started to test it out in the tri valley (east bay, cali). It's pretty BS. You'd think they'd let the people who've been with them starting at a certian price could stay at that price. I mean, isn't that the way it works with cell phones?

Just switched from Comcast to a competing DSL service....and the difference is AMAZING!

Now I can actually join games via Xbox Live and not lag out.

They tried to charge me $60 on my latest bill. I called them and pointed out the error, and the corrected it. I haven't received any notification of a rate increase. I won't be surprised if I get one though... I'll have to look into getting DSL.

You guys all have it great, around here there is no cable modem service offered. If you want broadband you get DSL, which means you also pay for telephone service even if you didn't want it. When its all said and done I pay about $80 a month for 768/128 since I wouldn't have a phone from them otherwise. Even without it would still be $60 from the cheapest ISP without the local telephone service....


Sadly bandthwidth is still expensive.

Comcast sucks. I thought AT&T sucked, but man. When we had Mediaone as our cable service, we never had any problems. Downtime was rare. Immediately after AT&T bought them out and transitioned the network, we started having regular outages, both during what could be considered maintenance windows and in the middle of the day, lasting several minutes to several hours. It was never even worth calling to ask about it, they never knew what was going on and always went through the "unplug your modem, plug it back in, hook one computer to the modem" garbage. Then when AT&T spun off the broadband to AT&T Broadband, it got even worse, having outages once a week at least. Then the DNS servers started becoming unreachable at random times for short periods (yes I could have used some other, but I shouldn't need to).

Now as soon as Comcast took over, we've started having problems with them even worse.

We're debating our options. DSL from Speakeasy comparable to our cable service would be 100 dollars a month (though with double the upload bandwidth), but they'd be our preference. Getting it from Verizon, we can only get half the up and down speeds we get now, for the same price or more. Damned if we do, damned if we don't. And we have to get our phone turned back on, since we had it turned off at the beginning of the month because we all have cell phones. I'll have to look at other providers to see what their prices are, but I know Speakeasy is good and I don't know much about others.

Guess I"m not missing much from cable internet, comcast can't install into my apartment because of some legal agreement my complex won't sign.
I'm happy with DSL, the cable tv service I have with them is as crummy as with At&T. I do miss mediaone.

i dropped comcast for 10mbit, 50 a month from surewest, formerly winfirst.net. same price but helluva lot better speed, waiting for it to get installed and what not, cant wait 😀

My broadband is ass too... gonna get a 5mbit DSL from a local place in town.. forget this stupid cable... keeps getting more expensive, and it's getting SLOWER.
its not upload and download (speed) capped... SUCKS!!!!

Odd, I got ATTBI in sept, in january got a letter that Comcast was taking over and dropping rates by $5, so now I am paying $45 instead of $50 for 1.5/256. At first it cut a couple of times, but now I haven't noticed anything.
