Do you really want a javalin thrower or shot put person to be high while performing their event. Sure pot doesn't make you faster or stronger, but it does affect your judgement and reaction times, so instead of throwing a javalin on the field, they can end up throwing it into the stands.

I'm confused; how does a drug that makes you run faster NOT "violate the spirit of the sport"? They might as well give Ben Johnson his freaking medal back.Originally posted by: Crappopotamus
oh my god. read people, read.
"Some have argued that cannabis should be left off the list because it's not performance-enhancing. But Ljungqvist noted that the new definition of doping also covers substances which violate the "spirit of sport." "
violates the spirit of the sport. makes sense. i still dont agree with it though... i think its stupid. as long as the athletes arent puffing a blunt as they run the 100m, the drug testers should stay out of it.

Exactly. Being stoned would be detrimental to your performance and last I checked people compete to win, not to smell the goddamn roses on the way so why bother testing for it?Originally posted by: Crappopotamus

i was mostly saying for the whole pot thing cause people here are all 'pot doesnt make you run faster!'.
There's currently a limit in place and it's actually pretty high (about the equivalent of 10 cups of coffee IIRC). This proposal would remove that limit completely and then you'll have everyone jacking up on as much caffeine as their hearts can handle. That is totally contrary to the idea of a "level playing field" and the "best man wins". They might as well open the floodgates and let them do 'roids now.as for caffeine... i dunno thats pretty stupid, but im sure they still have a limit. suppose there have been too many dqs of people who were just not careful... and its not like you can give these people exemptions. its terrible to have them give their medal back because they popped a sudafed or whatever.
