Interesting - I thought it was just my luck, and not indicative of a BR specific issue. Proportionally (unplayable vs total # Netflix rented) , I've had a much higher rate of cracked BR discs than DVDs.
Yea, because the antiscratch actually makes them easier to crack.
that makes no sense whatsoever...
I've had one blu-ray that didn't play properly from Netflix in about 3 years of renting them so my experience doesn't agree with them being "notorious" for bad discs. I have had a few with stupid BD-Live features that required a firmware update.
The stickers they put on the hub now do seem to help to stop disc cracking, before they did that I'd gotten a couple of DVDs that arrived cracked.
Judging by the hundreds of comments on the article I posted, and a few postings here, seems like you are insanely lucky.
That's because it's Blu-Ray, duh.Your player doesnt sound very []D[][]v[][]D
I just got a DVD that had sand in the sleeve, yes freaking sand. What kind of asshole does that crap? I just upgraded to BR so it should be my last DVD from them.
3rd copy came today and I put it in the PS3 to test and it does see it this time. hopefully it plays.
did you notice if the previous disc had those cracks on the outside? I'm curious. I've had problems before, but don't think I noticed the cracks. Never think to look, though.
Netflix is notorious for damaged Blu-rays. Its not because they are scratched though, they are getting cracked in the mail.
Take a VERY close look at the outer edge of the disc. You will probably see a small crack somewhere.
The anti scratch coating on Blu-rays does nothing to prevent them from cracking like this.
