I got hit in the balls a few times when I was playing catcher (still hurts even with a cup on :colbert:). Could I have sued them for molesting me?

There's a difference between a freak accident and one which is a direct result of an inherent *flaw* in a product. In this case, the flaw was intentional. The ball hit by one of these bats reached the pitcher in less time than normal reaction time. Playing with these bats was akin to having the kids play Russian roulette, without the kids or their families realizing the level of danger. This wasn't a case of a pitcher who flubbed catching the ball and was hit - this is a case about a kid who didn't have a chance from the instant the ball was struck.

Fucking this. I got hit IN THE EYE after failing to catch a pop fly when I was a kid. It messed me up pretty bad but we didn't sue.

During the same summer, a friend got hit in the head with a line drive and had issues for a while as well.

This is a BS lawsuit.

a hit in the eye is nothing compared to how fast the ball comes off some of those bats.

my nephew plays baseball he had one of these bats. i was shocked to see how fast it goes. The ball is past the pitcher before he can even move the glove in front of his face or his 2nd foot touching the ground.

a person really has no reaction time if its hit back at them.

Next item to be banned in the states: metal bats.

Next thing you know the only toys children will be able to have is guns! :p

Russian Roulette is a one in six chance of dying. What's the odds of dying from playing baseball, less than one in a million?

More people die from slipping in the bathroom.

i would sue the guy who claimed to know how to do chest pumps. i bet he was afraid to hurt the kid more, as the ball already did some damage. but you gotta just push hard and fast. pump pump pump right at the point of breaking bones and dont ever stop until help comes.

the metal bat didnt do this anyway. if anything it was the baseball.

Wooden bats can break, so I guess foam will be next. Until some retard takes a bite of one and chokes to death. Then they will use pretend bats and balls.

pro wooden bats do because of the way there made for maximum performance.

they could make little league wood bats that would never break no matter what.

just banned all metal bats from little league, and made all the kids use wooden bats ONLY. Or make the baseball softer. lol

They really should use wooden bats only. Its what the pros use so why not get used to it if you are going to be good and try for the pros someday.

I do agree that wooden bats are better, but I still feel like this same thing could have happened even with one.

Probably. You'd rather they work for free?

nobody expects them to work for free. but 1/3 of a settlement is insane. no he does not deserve $4.8 million for it.

yes. but the odds would be a LOT less.

with wooden bats a big and talanted kid will hit the bar hard. with these new banned bats even a smaller less talented kid is hitting them hard.

+1. I mean.. how hard/far do you really need to hit the ball?? If it becomes a problem, then move the fences in, or maybe teach kids to hit line drives instead of trying to hit bombs everytime?

Then again, if this happened companies like Easton would cause a huge stink because they'd lose a piss ton of money from people who buy a new bat for their spoiled brat of a kid every year to have the latest and greatest.

Have you ever hit with a wood bat before? Unless you are pro, or very used to a wood bat, the ball travels much shorter and with less velocity.
