OK seriously... This might seem really bizarre at this day and age but I do want to buy a wow account. I'm trying to do so without getting burned, or at least a reasonably safe way to do so. I used to play a while ago and I wanted to get back into it with a group of RL friends who play 1-2 times a week. It's very casual but they play horde and I played alliance (so I know how to play). I have limited time and would rather spend $200-300 to buy a decent account then lvl one up and regear. So I was wondering if anyone here has been through the process as a buyer or seller.

account trader website url removed = good?

Is it possibly for the buyer to reclaim the account after I pay for it? What do I need to know about this part? I would think that the first thing I would do is go into the accounts page and change all the info.

Current AT policy prohibits the trading of MMO accounts / MMO services that violate the owner's ToS. Do not use this thread to buy / sell / trade WoW accounts or any other IP that belongs to Blizzard.

For Sale / Trade Forum Policy
No sales or trades of game accounts (Steam, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, etc.) if prohibed by the manufacturer's terms of service.

I've used the forums at account trader website url removed in the past to sell my accounts. Good site, but there are quite a few scammers. Make sure you actually talk with the person you're dealing with over the phone before you pay them anything.

Make sure they can provide you with all the account details so you can transfer the character to a new account. That's probably the most you can protect the account after buying it. Either way you're taking a risk.

If they want to scam you, it's real easy. They can just call up w/ the original CC they used to sign up for the account and you're finished.

Get a new account and set loose some geek nephew or cousin to level you up. You get your character leveled quickly on the cheap and you get cool Uncle points. Double Win!

I'm probably going to sell my account in the coming weeks; I really don't want to play anymore and don't really want the account to just rot. I'm not sure I'd ever trust buying an account though, like others have said, it can be taken back pretty easily. Honestly though, it doesn't make much sense to buy an account right now. Once the expansion hits it'll set the gear level back to 0 anyway. I'd just start playing now and level up on your own. You should be able to hit 70 by the time the expansion hits and then you'll be at the same spot in the pack as everyone else. Basically; if you buy an account now you're paying a premium to have a quasi-geared character for a few months before it becomes meaningless.

Or just use a program to do the same thing. ;)

You could always ask your friends to power level you, other than that, I'm not to sure about buying accounts online since AFAIK paypal won't cover you with electronic/intangible items.

I'm WoW free since May and I doubt I'll ever go back, I have a level 70 hunter and warrior with pvp gear I wouldn't mind selling.

Yep... I'd say unless you trust the person, I would never ever leave them on the account itself. I've talked to quite a few people that told me how they sold their account and then just stole it back from the person that bought it. As much as selling accounts is not legit, going back on a deal is much worse in my opinion.

For those of you considering SELLING your accounts - avoid selling it to one of the gold/account sites. They will always offer you no more than maybe $70-80 at best and turn around and resell it for $500 to some sucker. :)

If you do use paypal, make sure you include some physical item instead of just your account detail, that way you are covered from scammer since you will have prove they received a physical item (say a piece of paper with your character equipment setup)

I think this is against the AT rules to talk about.

I have thought about selling mine (inactive) but I don't know.

(Asimo on Azuremyst FYI)

Gold is cheap because of dailies, but people still don't like the huge level grind.

To my knowledge, talking about it is not, but telling where (listing sites, etc) to do it is.

Leveling up is so fast now I wouldn't bother messing with buying an account. Just do it yourself, you can get to 60 in ~4 days played (1-2 weeks effort) and another week to get to 70.

Thanks for the responses. I want to preface with a discussion that I knew would undoubtedly come up. I used to be very opposed to the selling of in game resources and accounts. Now I have come around into realizing that it is no different then any other hobby that requires time. Some people will buy the rebuilt classic car, others build, sell, then start all over. I don't see this as any different. Building and driving are 2 entirely different aspects of the hobby. Just like leveling, rebuilding a char, and playing end game to which blizzard has obviously made the focus (end game that is). I have a huge account already with several level 70s that have top echelon raiding experience. It was a time and commitment that I cannot put to this game anymore. Lots of people feel the same way and are willing to part with their account for a few bucks compensation for the time and effort put into the account, and vice versa, others willing to pay for that time.

I'm just looking to play with friends who play casually and help them raid 1-2 nights a week. As for gold, it is super easy these days. It really isn't hard to make 100g/hour or work the AH for 30 min a day and make a lot of money.

I just want to be clear that I am not looking to buy or sell here on AT. I want to know what people's experiences are with the process.

I have had mixed experiences.

Dakel your best bet honestly for something that will have no possible kick back is to use a power leveling service.

Set up a new account...create said character at lvl 1. Let the account cool down for a few days so blizzard doesn't watch a quick IP change..and then find a reputable power leveler to do the account.

Wait some time before logging into the account and then boom.

I've used quite a few lvling serivices back in the day and at the very worst you get a "FINAL WARNING" notice..which basically means your ass is grass if you do anything wrong on the account again.

But in having someone powerlevel your account you don't run the risk of having someone steal your account from you 3-6 months from now.

You just have about a 20% chance of getting a temp ban from it.
