Writing a letter to someone in prison

A guy I grew up with, and have known my whole life, is basically spending 6 years in prison. He may get out in 4 if he is lucky.

He's been in for almost a year and short of a small one page letter, I haven't really sent him anything. I'm brainstorming right now on things to talk about. Questions to ask him without being insensitive, etc.

Anybody have ideas of things to ask, talk about, etc.. ?? I want some of it to be funny, etc.

Assuming this is true (and I am skeptical that this isn't a troll post) that is insane. I'm a little shocked that they can even charge a relatively minor crime like that after eight years. Isn't there a statute of limitations?

Edit: Stories like this make me glad that I was such an awkward teenager. Definitely helped avoid these kinds of problems!

I admit, 1st thing I thought was shens. He never said the state, but I would have to assume the statute of limitations would have passed.

There are 4 users that I assume everything they post is a flat out lie until proven otherwise, and this tool is one of them.
