I have very aggresive winter tires on my truck but no matter how badazz they are ice will always beat the $h!t out of us until we can hover over it 😉

get another bumper from the junkyard. quarter panel just needs some repair work. ask around the shops or you can do it yourself, get a repair manual for instructions on taking it all off.

Regardless of how he said it, he's pretty much correct. If you were going fast enough to "hop(ped) a curb and hit a giant concret piece of sewer" you were going way too fast for conditions & you were to blame.

Regardless, it's just a car & you're (apparently) fine.

Going up the curb and bouncing off of it is what did the most damage.
But hitting the concrete thing smashed in the front bumper and crumpled the right fender.

Good to know someone knows what ABS is really for.. people who think it helps you stop better on ICE are morons, if people were only educated it's to help you steer WHILE braking, but the DOT's across the whole US only care that you know what the red octigon sign mean. They could care less if you really knew how to manage an automobile.

Back in 1998 we had a 68 car pile up on I-25 here in denver, over 80% of the cars involved had ABS, but they all just locked em up and hoped for the best.

If they all had ABS how did they lock up there brakes. Oh and in theory ABS should give a car a shorter stopping distance.

btw, a soccer mom in a minivan backed into me in a parking lot 3 weeks ago. Entirely her fault, I was found 0% at fault. Not to thread-hijack, but just give a better idea of what it will cost to fix jntdesign's damages, this cost just over $2k to fix. Probably because I went to the best and most expensive body shop in town, but hey, not one single dime is coming out of my pocket (not even for deductible or rental car) and the law entitles me to pre-loss condition, which I got.

um, stopping power is always ultimately limited by how much traction you have between the tire and ground. It doesn't matter how over engineered your ABS/braking system is, rubber on ice is still going to slide. There is no magic involved.
