Wow, who knew such an oppurtunity would come like this?

Damn, why do such good things have to happen like this? I?m currently working for an IT company as a Web Development Intern making $15 an hour with a usual workload of around 30 hours a month (yes month!). I recently received an email from my boss that said something to the affect of "Once we land a couple of big contracts, we are going to hire you on salaried full time." That is so exciting to me because I absolutely LOVE the company I work for! Great people (I?m friends with many of them), great environment, everything I could wish for!

Here is where it gets crappy, my girlfriend works at the same company, as an intern, doing the same job, making the same wage of $15 an hour. I have a gut feeling that they won't be hiring her.... So while I will be having one of those "This is my first full time job and I'll actually be making a good living." moments, she'll be thinking "Wow, I feel so inadequate." and ?Why didn?t they pick me?? moments.

You see my predicament? Though, there is no way in hell I?d turn them down?. it?s still a sticky situation.

How do you guys think I should handle it?

Take the job. If your gf is a quality gal, she'll be happy for you.

If your gf asks why they picked you, tell them you weren't a part of the selection process and that you don't know. Encourage her to talk to HR or whomever handles those things to find out why she wasn't chosen and to find out what she can do to improve herself to get offered a f/t position.

If she's not happy for you, it might be time for a new gf.

She has been there longer, around 1 year compared to my 7months. She has pulled off bigger projects than I have in her year there, but in true design skills and speed, I am much better/faster. She also tends to whine more about the company.... but, to each his/her own.

EDIT: We both just went through performance evaluation meetings with our managers and bosses, I passed with flying colors with nothing other than excellent reviews. AFAIK she did too. At the end of the meeting they told both of us that in three more months they would do one of three things, hire us on as full time, continue the internship if we wanted, or let us go. So I guess I know what they are planning for me...

hmmm then i would have to agree with what dirtboy says. she should be happy for you if she cares about you....

Don't tell her that or you will be looking for a new gf whether you want to or not 😉

Congrats on getting the job, btw 🙂

hehe, i vote you go for the "ignore the issue" method. i sure as hell wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole 😀

Whiners don't get promoted.

True, true. Oh, it can be funny as hell in the breakroom, and creative whining/sarcasm can be quite entertaining, but it most assuredly keeps people from getting promoted. And the worst part is no one ever tells them why.

take the job and smile...

keep banging the wench... if she whines... find another wench....

she'd do the same for you....

dang, what am i saying... must be the alcohol talking ... 😀
