Bbond is justified in being outraged at this latest speech.

Just keep this in mind: Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America Joint Statement by President Bush, President Fox, and Prime Minister Martin -- I've mentioned this in another thread, but it involves a cfr plan to implement a 'north american union'.

Bush, in this speech, has been called on the issue. Only now does he propose something whereas before he was so criminally negligent. The very idea that he has the nerve to speak on this issue is hilarious. The FEAR that has been strewn regarding 'terrists' and protecting Americans, whilst all the while KEEPING THE BORDERS OPEN is fearmongering, treachorous and treasonous.

WTF is going on here?

I actually found myself agreeing with Bush throughout a speech. I don't think I've ever done that...and I'm a registered Republican!

Edit-Now we'll see if any of it comes to fruition.

What, exactly, did you find yourself agreeing with? Because, just in case you're the only person who didn't notice, bush offered NOTHING in his speech but more of the same failed policy and LIES!

BEST ADDRESS EVER???!

This man and anyone who supports him is a total and complete DISGRACE to everything America stands for.

If bush can ILLEGALLY monitor EVERY PHONE CONSERVATION in the entire nation why can he monitor ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who have and are flooding our borders at the bequest of the very same george w. bush???

I sincerely hope that Americans are not stupid enough to fall for this garbage. But judging from by the past six years, and the obvious blind partisanship as evidences once again in the title of this very thread, it would not surprise me in the least if they are just that damn stupid.
Bush had some great points/ideas in tonight's speech. try to see through to what he is saying for once.

i will highlight the speech for you:

Highlights of President Bush's Speech

By The Associated Press
The Associated Press
Monday, May 15, 2006; 9:10 PM

-- Highlights of President Bush's speech:

_ BORDER PROBLEMS:

Bush said the United States does not have complete control of its borders and millions of people who have sneaked across the border have stayed in this country, living in the shadows of society.

_ NATIONAL GUARD:

Bush said the federal government will pay for up to 6,000 National Guard troops to be deployed to the southern border. They will serve in two-week rotations, meaning that over the course of a year a total of 156,000 troops could be involved. He said Guard units will not be involved in direct law enforcement activities; that duty will be performed by the Border Patrol. Guard units will work in support positions.

_ TEMPORARY WORKER PROGRAM:

Bush called for a temporary worker program allowing foreign workers to enter the United States for jobs for a limited period of time. They would be required to return to their home countries at the conclusion of their stay.

_ EMPLOYERS:

It is against the law to hire an illegal immigrant, and Bush said employers must be held to account for their employees. He said a tamper-proof identification card for every legal foreign worker would help with law enforcement and leave employers with no excuse for violating the law.

_ PATH TO CITIZENSHIP:

Bush said it is not realistic to deport the millions of people illegally living in the United States. "I believe that illegal immigrants who have roots in our country and want to stay should have to pay a meaningful penalty for breaking the law, to pay their taxes, to learn English and to work in a job for a number of years. People who meet these conditions should be able to apply for citizenship but approval would not be automatic, and they will have to wait in line behind those who played by the rules and followed the law. What I have just described is not amnesty; it is a way for those who have broken the law to pay their debt to society and demonstrate the character that makes a good citizen."

_ ASSIMILATION:

Bush said that Americans "are bound together by our shared ideals, an appreciation of our history, respect for the flag we fly and an ability to speak and write the English language. English is also the key to unlocking the opportunity of America."

_ APPEAL TO CONGRESS:

Bush said he was speaking directly to members of the House and Senate in appealing for a comprehensive immigration bill. "All elements of this problem must be addressed together or none of them will be solved at all," he said. The House passed a law-and-order immigration bill that would erect fences along the Mexican border and treat people who sneak across borders as felons to be deported. The Senate began debate Monday on a broader bill.

Sounds to me like More Lies, red tape and BS. As adding troops to the border is not going to solve anything but a FEEL good policy that (we are doing something) but not enough since they will still be getting in.

Yeah, sounds like a great speach.
it's hard to get by the fact that you can't correctly spell speech amongst all your criticism.

Did President Bush admit that Master Gunnery Sargent DeMujon(sp?) is an illegal immigrant? Am I the only one that sees a problem with the US Marine Corp not checking the status of or soldiers????

Actually, foreign nationals have served in the US military for years. Many of those doing it currently are probably using it as a springboard to legal immigration. There was even a large contingent of Canadians who fought for the US in Vietnam. They basically got the shaft when they came home, though.

i actually had two latin-american soldiers in my platoon that flew to Germany to get sworn in as citizens while we were in Afghanistan. they had served and waited for years to get it, but i certainly respect them for it.

I agreed with the ideas put forth. I think it's the right course of action but I seriously doubt anything that lofty will come of it. Most likely it will be more of the status quo with employers allowed to hire illegals with little or no concern of anyone actually enforcing the law. Few illegals will be deported and the borders will continue to allow anyone and anything from Mexico to come in unabated.

<--Mr. Optimistic.

Edit-Actually, I don't agree with everything he said. That temporary worker idea is a stupid idea and will just encourage more illegal immigration.

give border patrol agents some credit. although they aren't stopping everyone, (severely understaffed) they do stop a lot of Mexicans from crossing. so i wouldn't say "anyone and anything from Mexico" gets into our country.

First off, keep YOUR "highlights" -- HERE IS THE TEXT OF bush's ENTIRE SORRY SPEECH.

Here's a quote from bush' ridiculous speech. Tell me what you think of this bullshit.

Therefore, I support a temporary worker program that would create a legal path for foreign workers to enter our country in an orderly way, for a limited period of time. This program would match willing foreign workers with willing American employers for jobs Americans are not doing.

Please keep in mind that Americans ARE doing these jobs every day and ILLEGAL immigrants are stealing them by doing them FOR LESS. That's the ONLY reason why Americans don't want a job, because the ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS have depressed the wages to the point where only people who come from a nation so fvcked up that they'll work for next to nothing and consider in AN IMPROVEMENT!

Another part I loved is the nonsense about securing our borders. Just where the hell has bush been on this issue for the past going on SIX YEARS? Oh, that's right, it's an election year this time around.

What shameless pandering. Only the truly mindless could possibly buy this crap.

First, the United States must secure its borders. This is a basic responsibility of a sovereign nation. It is also an urgent requirement of our national security. Our objective is straightforward: The border should be open to trade and lawful immigration and shut to illegal immigrants, as well as criminals, drug dealers and terrorists.

AND HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS NEARLY FIVE YEARS AFTER 9/11???

Third, we need to hold employers to account for the workers they hire. It is against the law to hire someone who is in this country illegally. Yet businesses often cannot verify the legal status of their employees, because of the widespread problem of document fraud. Therefore, comprehensive immigration reform must include a better system for verifying documents and work eligibility.

bush has abdicated his sworn duty to protect our borders! This idiot needs to be impeached and tried for TREASON!

And for a real laugh, read this. bush is accusing people of "exploiting the issue of immigration for political gain" when that is, in fact, PRECISELY what bush has been doing for going on SIX YEARS!

We cannot build a unified country by inciting people to anger, or playing on anyone's fears, or exploiting the issue of immigration for political gain.

And what is this talk of a "UNIFIED COUNTRY"??? Unified how? By allowing anyone who can illegally violate our borders to become part of our "unified country"?

How absolutely ridiculous.

Read the rest of the speech and WTFU!

If America buys this crap we're through as a nation. Period.

If he called for the US Constitution to be abolished, some people here would still insist that it was a good speech. In true form over substance tradition, there will ever be the diehard supporters; the truly hypnotized by the propoganda. It's sad and kinda scary, really.

I really hate the comment "they're doing jobs Americans don't want to do." That is such nonsense.

Once upon a time Bush made a dumb statement (Ok, he's made many, but a specific one!); that working multiple jobs is "an American thing." People are not only willing to do jobs, they're willing to do several crummy jobs.

The speech was decent, but let's see how it is implemented (I don't really have much faith in implementation).

There was george w. bush, president of the USA, admitting what people here have been trying to tell everyone has been going on since the Iraq debacle began -- the US military is using mercenary conscripts hoping to gain citizenship to fight in it's unprovoked invasion of Iraq. And when people try to tell America that these very illegal immigrant mercenaries aren't being counted in the US casualty totals in Iraq, Americans refuse to believe that either.

Yet America continues to believe every word out of the lying mouth of people like bush, cheney, and rove.

Unbelievable. Just simply unbelievable.

So Master Gunner DeMujon is a merc. huh? Fighting in Iraq to gain citizenship? Here's a news flash for you, you ignorant tool, the Master Gunner was on active duty long before the Iraq war started. Long before. Oh and feel free to provide proof that the non-citizens on active duty aren't being counted in the casualty counts. That's proof, not your usual alternet lies. Proof.

Not that anymore proof is needed on what a pathetic old woman you really are but here's something really ironic and brings it into specific relief. These illegal aliens, that you hate so much, that are willing to go on active duty in order to short circuit the naturalization process, will do more for this country in any random 15 minutes on active duty than you have done in your 6+ decades of living in this country. They're willing to do whatever it takes to become a citizen and you continue to do nothing but leech. I'd take one of them over a thousand of you everyday of the week. No brainer.
