Wow..this is the best address I have ever seen from the President

Bush had three goals last night and he hit on each of them perfectly.

- Throw a bone to his base with tough talk about national guard and walls.
- Throw a bone to the immigrant population, both illegal and legal.
- Tow the party line so business owners can remain in a constant supply of second class, cheap, labor.

All this has ever been is maintaining and writing into law the current status quo. Nothing new and nothing fixed. Splendid work Mr. President.

Looks like Orange County, Californias political polarization against all things not White Bred Conservative is sweeping the nation.

Boogymen - they're everywhere! Gonns take your jobs, gonna live next door to you.

My diagnosis of America - Paranoid Schizophrenics

Bush actually sounded like he ment something last night, as he pandered to his conservative base.
Steping up to the plate and surveying the field - he did what any smart baseball player would do in a
trailing by 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, 3 balls & 2 strikes count . . .
send the runners with the pitch and laying down a bunt to appease his conservative base.

i have never agreed on much of anything bush has said or done before and his speechs typically make me nauseous but i agreed with almost 100% of what he said last night. the only part i disagreed on was sending the national guard to the border.

THE BEST ADDRESS EVER???!

How can bush sit there in front of the American people and, POINT BY POINT, highlight his OUTRIGHT FAILURE in securing our border for GOING ON SIX LONG YEARS, and NOW, IN AN ELECTION YEAR, come up with some RIDICULOUS, TOO LITTLE TOO LATE nonsense to combat a problem that bush himself and the republicans in general have INGORED in favor of depressing U.S. wages and blatant pandering for votes?

BEST ADDRESS EVER???!

This man and anyone who supports him is a total and complete DISGRACE to everything America stands for.

If bush can ILLEGALLY monitor EVERY PHONE CONSERVATION in the entire nation why can he monitor ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who have and are flooding our borders at the bequest of the very same george w. bush???

I sincerely hope that Americans are not stupid enough to fall for this garbage. But judging from by the past six years, and the obvious blind partisanship as evidences once again in the title of this very thread, it would not surprise me in the least if they are just that damn stupid.

You are lost in your own anger, I would seek counseling.

Bbond is justified in being outraged at this latest speech.

Just keep this in mind: Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America Joint Statement by President Bush, President Fox, and Prime Minister Martin -- I've mentioned this in another thread, but it involves a cfr plan to implement a 'north american union'.

Bush, in this speech, has been called on the issue. Only now does he propose something whereas before he was so criminally negligent. The very idea that he has the nerve to speak on this issue is hilarious. The FEAR that has been strewn regarding 'terrists' and protecting Americans, whilst all the while KEEPING THE BORDERS OPEN is fearmongering, treachorous and treasonous.

Doesn't the president of the United States take an OATH TO PRESERVE THE UNION???!

WTF is going on here?

This idiot is selling America to the LOWEST bidders!

I hate to inform you all but the border has been an issue for a long time yes even during the Clinton administration and what did he do about it? Of course that applies to the first Bush as well.

I actually found myself agreeing with Bush throughout a speech. I don't think I've ever done that...and I'm a registered Republican!

Edit-Now we'll see if any of it comes to fruition.

What, exactly, did you find yourself agreeing with? Because, just in case you're the only person who didn't notice, bush offered NOTHING in his speech but more of the same failed policy and LIES!

Actually he proposed that ?By the end of 2008, we will increase the number of Border Patrol officers by an additional 6,000, temporarily use 6,000 from the National Guard, and ?construct high-tech fences in urban corridors, and build new patrol roads and barriers in rural areas. We will employ motion sensors infrared cameras and unmanned aerial vehicles to prevent illegal crossings?, we have expanded the number of beds in our detention facilities, and we will continue to add more. We have expedited the legal process to cut the average deportation time, a temporary worker program, and a seemingly fair way for some illegal immigrants in this country to become citizens.

Whether these come to pass is another story, however you can?t say the address was all bad, if you do you are showing everyone you are a blind follower of the Democratic Party.

Why bother? Its the same old BS. He's not going to do anything to solve the problem. All he wants is cheap labor and amnesty. One little speech isn't going to undo 6 years of incompetence at managing the border.

I love it the border has been an issue for longer than 6 years and what did the democrats do about it when they were in power nothing and what will they do if they get back into power nothing the are to afraid of loosing the Hispanic vote.

The message from this administration is typical of our government's way of handling things. We look at all the political angles before reacting, and then make bold, symbolic gestures to try to convince all concerned that we are in control. Then we sit and wait for some sort of response. It's really transparent.

The message being sent to illegals within this country is:

If you have been freely traveling back and forth between the United States and Mexico, you may now experience a new set of hurdles to jump when you cross back into Mexico.

Never claimed that the Democrats did anything better. Both parties want the Hispanic vote. Neither party has an interest in securing the border. Just check out the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill - it has McCain's name on it for a reason....

That is the sad truth the only way for America to remain America is for Americans to stop being Republicans and Democrats and start being Americans.

Bush just doesn't have any credibility on this issue. I hope people will realize that Bush is the head of the executive branch and any and all failures to control illegal immigration falls squarely on his shoulders. Why has Bush's administration fined fewer employers of illegal immigrants in it's entire time in office than prior presidents did in a single year? The reason is because Bush is pro-illegal immigration.

I find it funny that you guys are jumping all over OP because he said "Wow..this is the best address I have ever seen from the President".

Now, I could be wrong, but if the bar is as low as the rest of America has set it for GW (almost 70% have set the bar low), then for him to hit it was a pretty major accomplishment.

I mean, when you suck as bad as he does, anything can be better. If he wiped his mouth with a napkin I would be impressed at this point.

Ask yourself this question; Why hasn't ANY of this been done in the over FIVE YEARS bush has been in charge? Why, instead, has bush tacitly INVITED millions of ILLEGAL immigrants to FLOOD OUR BORDERS? Why hasn't bush insisted on enforcing current immigration law?

WHY NOW? Do you think that just maybe bush is pandering for votes with his popularity in the toilet during an election year? HOW MANY TIMES CAN YOU PEOPLE FALL FOR THE SAME BULLSH!T BEFORE YOU FIGURE IT OUT?

bush and the republicans will say anything to maintain their control of government and once they maintain that control it'll be more of the same failed policies, more of the same mistakes, more of the same corrruption, more of the same incompetence, more of the same corporatocracy, more of the same class warfare against working Americans, that we've suffered under for the first five years. WTFU. The address WAS all bad because it's just more of the same LIES that guaranty more of the same bush.

And BTW, I'm a registered independent.

I love it, the republicans open the flood gates at the border with the express intent of depressing U.S. workers' wages and getting all of these illegals amnesty and ultimately the right to vote and you, being a total partisan republican hack, blame it on the democrats.
