Hi all-
I've been in the WoW forums forever looking for a good talent build for a rogue (yeah i know.. everyone hates a rogue)

i was wondering if any of you in here have a good site to point me to for talent trees that are the best for PvP, soloing, etc. I want to start early on a good build so i dont have to spend the money getting retrained.

Thank you in advance.

PvE = Combat
PvP = ASS

Do whatever talents turn you into a stunlocking ASS rogue. We really love that, and oh yeh, be undead.

(ASS= assassination)

Huh? I've never seen any shortage of people posting in those forums telling you what your build should be/how you should play. Just pick one and assign the points where they tell you too if that's what you're after.

A respec or two are cheap. In fact, sometimes it's more productive to go with one build earlier and swap out quite a bit later.

You really can't mess up a rogue build that badly. They are so easy and quick to kill things... My rogue had ~4 days 14 hours /played time to 40. My warlock had ~5 days 20 hours and my holy/disc priest ~6 days 10 hours all using about the same amount of rested, etc... Some people will deny it, but going level 1-60 with a rogue really is setting the game difficulty on easy. Not that that's bad, I like to play my rogue sometimes, just as I like to play my priest, warlock and warrior.

That being said there are a few usual builds for rogues:

23 / 2 / 21 (+ a few floaters) -- imp. cheap shot / preparation in subtlety / improved SS in combat / Cold Blood in Ass
add the floaters to improved gouge and improved KS for a stunlock build, which is a very good PvP build, use improved rupture/sap for PvE instance build. In general a versatile build that doesn't really focus on swords or daggers, but rather on versatility and being ready for any situation. With two cold bloods on one target is a very good single target damge machine... once every 10 minutes when preparation is available.

13(12) / 8 / 30(31) -- Imp ambush / Imp backstab / Seal Fate
that's the basic dagger PvP build all backs, a little tough for PvE because it's sometimes difficult to get backs facing you (and enough energy to backstab). Less burst damage than the 23/2/21 but more damage on a consistent basis.

0 / 30 / 21 -- improved "insert weapon choice here", blade flurry / Cold Blood (some prefer adrenaline rush and dumping about 33-35 talent points in combat)
Basic warrior rogue, no MoD or Camoflage means your stealth is a bit gimped, but your ability to give damage is good and you generally either have +3% dodge or +5%parry (or both) so your ability to avoid (melee) damage is better too. The downside is you are less of a rogue, you give up improved sap (critical for instance play in a group) you don't have any improved openers, you're more just running up to things and swinging.

Most builds are a variation on that theme. Pretty much 2 points in SS is universal. Clod blood is also a VERY nice talent and most will run to get that, Adrenaline rush in the Combat tree is a similar skill with a little less variation to it (Cold Blood can miss) but a longer cooldown. One of those is pretty key I think.

Improved CS is very nice in that it opens up a lot of possibilities for long sequences, it brings energy for CS down to 40, which makes the cost per combo point down well below any other skill the rogue has.

Realistically, fishbits is correct. Once you buy your mount, a gold or two really isn't a ton of money. Also, probably the crappiest rogue build can level faster than the most ideal builds of half the other classes, so don't worry about it too much. A rogue doesn't have to be perfect to do his job.

for PvE/solo, I'd go with a sword/sword or sword/dagger build (slow sword in the mainhand for SS-spamming, quick sword or dagger in the offhand for poisons). I can give you my combat rogue build:

Assassination Talents (17 points)

-Improved Eviscerate - 3/3 points - Increases the damage done by your Eviscerate ability by 15%.

-Malice - 5/5 points - Increases your critical strike chance by 5%.

-Ruthlessness - 3/3 points - Gives your finishing moves a 60% chance to add a combo point to your target.

-Relentless Strikes - 1/1 point - Your finishing moves have a 20% chance per combo point to restore 25 energy.

-Lethality - 5/5 points - Increases the critical strike damage bonus of your Sinister Strike, Gouge, Backstab, Ghostly Strike, or Hemorrhage abilities by 30%.

Combat Talents (32 points)

-Improved Sinister Strike - 2/2 points - Reduces the Energy cost of your Sinister Strike ability by 5 Energy.

-Lightning Reflexes - 5/5 points- Increases your Dodge chance by 5%.

-Deflection - 5/5 points - Increases your Parry chance by 5%.

-Precision - 5/5 points - Increases your chance to hit with melee weapons by 5%.

-Riposte - 1/1 point - A strike that becomes active after parrying an opponent's attack. This attack deals 150% weapon damage and disarms the target for 6 seconds.

-Dual Wield Specialization - 5/5 points - Increases the damage done by your offhand weapon by 50%.

-Sword Specialization - 5/5 points - Gives you a 6% chance to get an extra attack after dealing damage with your Sword.

-Aggression - 3/3 points - Increases the damage of your Sinister Strike and Eviscerate abilities by 6%.

-Adrenaline Rush - 1/1 point - Increases your Energy regeneration rate by 100% for 15 seconds.

Subtlety Talents (2 points)

-Rapid Concealment - 2/5 points - Reduces the cooldown of your Stealth ability by 2 seconds.

my basic combat strategy is to pull with my bow, spam SS/evis (or ks on occasion) till dead, restealth, repeat... I don't use openers, which I guess gimps me in some ways, but I find pulling from a distance to be a much better way of avoiding add-on mobs, which in the end, does more for my survival than an ambush or cheap shot.

the rapid concealment points are kind of a waste, but it comes in handy for herbalism when I want to unstealth -> pick herbs -> immediately restealth

The rogue forum at www.worldofwar.net is also pretty good. Much better signal to noise ratio than in the official forums.

There is a pretty good comparison of various talent builds there written by Osiris, but it was written based on experience in the beta, so some things have changed a bit.

Go to worldofwarcraft.com. Under "forums" click classes. Under that click rogue. On the very first page entries include:

Advanced Rogue Guide 1.1 Updated: 4.18.2005

Toying around with talent builds

why or why not is this build good?

27/8/16 - Subtlety / Dagger Build

Which talent tree?

etc

# of times search feature used: 0. True, the official forums could stand a lot of improvement, and their search feature is horrid. Still ... did you even try to look? Anyhow, hope you find/found the build you want.
