Wow so I found out my neighbor is INSANE last night (UPDATE 2/22)

*UPDATE*

I consulted with an attorney about courses of action and went to speak to my complex about the issue last Friday, but they had a copy of the police report (per my request) I got a call at work on Monday from my room mates girlfriend who said the guy and his dad were calling her names as they moved out under the supervision of 2 security guards and a police officer. Apparently he was evicted and management notified security that he is not permitted on the premises. I have to say that I'm pretty happy with management's response to this as I really didn't have to prod them at all.

For Valentines day this year I'd planned a nice dinner in with my Girlfriend, white tablecloth with rose petals, candles, her favorite flowers, champagne, salmon and sea scallops, the whole bit. So anyways last night about 5 minutes before my girlfriend was going to arrive I go outside to pull the Salmon off the Grill and see my neighbor (in an apartment complex) who (according to the police report) is 6'6 270 and definitely looks like he roids, absolutely smashing things on our porch with a baseball bat. My room mate was on the upstairs balcony with his shotgun out and I'm wondering what in the hell I've walked in on.

So the guy comes storming up to me calling me by name (I've never met him before) and says that the complex told him I was responsible for some sort of destruction of property (he claims I was billed for this) anyways I told him I'm happy to settle this like adults, but as my girlfriend was on the way it would have to wait until tomorrow. To which he replied "Don't fsck with me, I'm going to make your life hell, and that's not a threat it's a warning" So naturally I inquired what exactly he meant by this and he replied "I'm going to fsck you up when you sleep" So I called security and they asked if I would like to call the police, but I didn't want to ruin Valentines day for my girlfriend so I said that I would call them in the morning.

Anyways probably 3 hours later we've finished dinner a bottle of Dom, and have retired to my bedroom when I get a knock at the door, I open it up to see 4 uniformed officers. I was confused at first because I said I would deal with it in the morning, but apparently my neighbor called the cops on us because he was scared my room mate was going to use the gun on him as he tried to force his way into our apartment (to be fair he would have as soon as he got inside) anyways we had an hour long conversation with the cops who INSISTED on questioning my girlfriend who wasn't even there when this happened, during which time my neighbor admitted to coming over and smashing our things and provoking my room mate. The police filed an incident report simply because there was no *real* damage (he apparently was hitting the puching bag with his bat and the grill, but nothing was really broken.

So now I have to figure out what I need to do to file a restraining order I guess and what the complex will do to at least move this maniac so he isn't my neighbor.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? This is the second time that he's come to my apartment with a baseball bat, the first time he just called me some names as I was walking out the door to a business meeting. I don't understand how "adults" can behave in this manner.

Get yourself a gun. If you don't have much money a simple shotgun can be had for about $100. This guy intends to break into your apartment and "fsck you up while you sleep," and you should not be without protection.

Definately get a restraining order. Also talk with the landlord as this may be grounds for him to be kicked out of the complex.

I'm not a lawyer but if someone makes threats like that, you need to pursue every available avenue to protect yourself. First with the legal aspect by getting a restraining order, then trying to distance yourself by talking with the landlord, and then assuming the worst by getting a firearm.

Yikes be careful, unfortunately Adults only refers to age not maturity or sanity level.

My brother in law lives next door to a guy like this, he just tries to keep his distance.

sounds like roid rage.. is there any way you can set a trap to get him to come into your apartment w/ a bat? Then you can blow his fvking head off.

"Well when he breaks in your house to f' you up while you sleep, just call the police, they'll protect you."

"You're obviously the one who provoked him, otherwise he wouldn't be mad at you."

These are just guesses as to what's going to appear later in the thread.

Heh, I'm not opposed to getting a gun and I've thought about it before (not related to this matter, just general home defense) but I'd HATE to use it on someone, I mean that is life altering. Anyways apparently he came over this time because he was mad about something that happened to his apartment, I'm not sure what, the complex said they have no record of this. I'm much more concerned about having my girlfriend over. It's one thing to call me names, but I'm not going to let anyone harrass my girlfriend. This neighbor apparently is the same one who has called the police 7 times over the past 6 months for noise (the usual complaint is that our pipes are too loud, a few times though he said it was music) in any case we've never been cited, when the police arrived they determined that there was no excessive noise. I'm speaking with an attorney tomorrow to investigate legal options, and I'll try to talk to the property manager this afternoon after work about evicting him. Apparently they offered to move him a few months ago when he was complaining about noise, but he declined because they wouldn't box everything up for him.

What did you supposedly break?

He never said, although I'm a little perturbed at the complex, because apparently the way he determined that I broke whatever it is was by reporting it to security who said that I had a guest over that evening (my girlfriend who is finishing up her masters degree at the moment) so apparently he (or security perhaps?) assumed that since I'm his neighbor, and I had a guest, that I was the likely culprit? I don't know, in any case I haven't heard anything from the complex about this, he was just talking all kinds of crazy.

I'd consider getting a shotgun. Even if you don't want to use it, a shotgun in your face is a good deterrent to any further actions by the neighbor. Are tasers legal where you live?

Sounds like the Meth talking to me.

I had a crazy neighbor once. He had me come over and sweep his phones for bugs. "The FBI and CIA were monitoring him". Harmless, unlike your neighbor.

Holy crap, you don't put a shotgun in someone's face unless you intend to shoot. Stop trying to give out advice if you are clueless.

If you cant shoot someone, then don't buy a gun, since it will just be used against you. However, if you can shoot someone to save your life or your girlfriend's life, then certainly get a home defense weapon.

Someone crashing through my door with a baseball bat would have a very low chance of survival.

I agree with you, I'm not saying that I couldn't use a gun on someone if they forcibly entered my apartment, or were causing iminent bodily injury to me or my girlfriend, I'm more concerned about using it in a situation that might not be justified. I think if I get one that I will definitely take some gun safety classes.

Damn, in Texas the neighbor on my porch with a bat threatening me would have been all I needed to shoot him in his tracks and still be within the law.
