i don't understand why they charge a monthly fee? the WoW servers cost that much? or do they really need people to fix things in the game, which mean blizzard's programming skills is crappy...hmm.

Never played it .. but i'd assume they're always adding new things to
do in the game

The servers and bandwidth aren't free. They need to pay people to help players (GMs). They need to pay people to code/test patches and new content.

Plus there's all the hookers and blow.

All the points made are valid however also keep in mind it's simply just because they can and people are willing to pay for it.

Why is it they charge money for gasoline again? Is it that maintaining the pumps is that expensive? Or that they really need people to pump it all the time because our combustion technology is crappy.. hmmmm

Down for regularly scheduled maintenance, are we that dense? They make it pretty clear that the servers go down once a week during off-peak times.

Because there are pathetic nerds who are addicted to it, and they'll gladly pay the fee. In fact, some people are so addicted to it that they play it until they/their kids die.

uh, no. they always have "unexpected problems" with their servers and always have people working to fix it... maybe thats where the money is going to? but still, if they did a good job programming they wouldn't ened this.

Look, yes it's true that they have recurring monthly costs, however they also make a lot of profit off of your monthly subscription. It's not like they are being deceitful or trying to hide the fact that they make money by posting that the subscription only defrays their costs. Their pretty upfront about the fact that they're in business to make copious amounts of cash.

After SC ghost got canned I can see blizzard becoming one of MMORPG only companies because of amount of money they are making on it. They have not even released the add-on pack yet! What?s next World Of Starcaft ?

Are you kidding? The bandwidth alone costs them thousands of dollars a month, plus the upkeep on the server farms, not just servers. And yeah, new content, fixing bugs, developing the sequel and the expansion packs.

GW doesn't have anywhere near the bandwidth and server costs.

The GMs are outsourced like any technical support now a days. I doubt they get paid more than $2/hr. In addition, everything they say is scripted. I wouldn't be surprised if all the GMs are genetically altered monkeys.

there is still a giant overhead of money left over each month from server cost and maintainance cost, i am sure. think about how many people are buying the game and paying for monthly fees a month.

The job listings for GMs that go up periodically at Blizzard.com say that you must in in Irvine, CA.
