I gotta say, starting out was rough, because you get thrown into the game basically (i mean, you wake up in a mortuary..fitting in a way :D)

so i won't lie in that i've peeped at walkthroughs every now and then just to keep the ball rolling.

but damn! the story in this game is great.
i just got out of the underground with the cranium rats vs. the undead
even the combat is pretty good once you figure out how it works (morde's litany of curses = taunt = kill group 1 by 1)

i'm gonna roll around sigil a little more to complete some quests i haven't gotten to yet, but i can't wait to find out who the character really is!!!

You did the update mods for it right? Makes it much better.

Do this. I can't remember exactly since it has been so long, but it seems that there was a big unofficial patch. (which I believe also gives you better screen resolution options)

I'm just smiling thinking of you playing it for the first time. (also a little jealous)

Awesome game.

I couldn't get into it... maybe the screen patches would help. I guess I am a graphics snob. I did get the feeling that under the old graphics it is a great game though.

Fenix.. Go to the GOG website and look for Planescape, on the description page it has a link to a page with all the mods and how to install them. They really do improve everything.

ALthough, I think you can't use your current saves with it.

I bought Baldurs Gate and Baldurs Gate 2 recently from GoG, since I missed them when they first came out (I was in college, and didn't have time for video games). I find that BG is just kind of ok, and I am very slowly working my way through it. BG2 is probably the one I should be playing of those two, but I wanted to finish the first game first.

Anyway, since it seems everyone loves Planescape, maybe I will just grab that game and play it instead. I do like a good story, and the BG story isn't really that great. (Again, maybe it is much better in the second game.)

Just to be clear, you are using the BG tutu mod right (along with all the other extras such as widescreen)?

PS:T and BG II are the undisputed kings of the RPG genre IMHO. Somewhat sad they will never be topped.

You guys are making me want to buy it again and play it. I never beat it first time around either. Although I thought I remember reading that it was a free download...but perhaps I'm thinking of another game that I loved in my childhood.

Great story. And the obligatory warning that there is as much novel reading as there is actual GAMEplay in PS:T. But this is a VERY good thing, as the story is fantastic and will stick with you forever.

This might be the only game that I've gone through and played over and over again with differect character styles, to a large extent anyways. And they were all satisfying.

I remember during my first playthough, I'd sit at work thinking about the game. There's a lot to process.

As far as BG 1&2, the storyline in BG1 was pretty much throwaway. Good enough to hold a game together, anyways. The story in BG2 was very good.

I am not using any mod for BG. I am running it natively. I don't have a widescreen monitor (I have a 19" CRT) although actually, my new 24" ZR24w IPS monitor just came in the mail today. I will probably finish off BG and look for mods on BG2. I am on chapter 4 right now, and just don't have the drive to continue, but I have heard such great things about BG2 I should push through until the end then start the second game.

Speaking about novel reading, there's the PS:T book I highly recommend you to read...after you played the game. I finished the game twice and found there was the book, which I bought and loved it.

Planscape: Torment, the novel that was a game....or was it a game that was a novel? Nevermind, enjoy it. It's worth the time you put into it.

I'd pay top dollar for an HD remake. One of the best CRPGs of all time. RIP Black Isle.

P.S. The soundtrack was haunting.

100% with you on both counts. Hell, I still have the music on my mp3 player for nostalgia's sake.

One of the best games ever made, period. I was pissed off about the new Fallout, but I'd go ballistic if someone bought the IP and botched a PS:T remake. Like, Office Space Pyro Building Vengeance.

Been itching for a game with a good story (done with ME 1&2, DA:O), I will have to pick this up at GoG because so many rave reviews can't be wrong!

I played the game through without knowing about any mods, then I tried the widescreen mod and, all of a sudden, the atmosphere of waking up on that mortuary slab was gone. That opening scene has had a profound impact on my perception of the world and expanded the horizons of my imagination by tenfold. I am very lucky I didn't miss out on its beauty due to some silly lo-fi phobia.

NIIICEE!! Great game. Im tempted to play it again with the mods.

I did try replaying it once and I ran into some bugged quest guy. that and constant annoying thugs in the city annoyed me and I stopped.

I find it interesting that Hollywood remake movies constantly yet gaming companies don't often do it.

I'd totally pay full price for a remake of PS:T and BG2. Perhaps using the Dragon Age engine. I guess BG2 would need to drop the D&D ruleset though.
