WoW owns a friend of mine

I have a good friend that I have known for a long time.

We're currently 22; while everyone around him is moving on with life, college, and careers, he is still in his parents basement.

He has never moved out, and has never held a job for more than a month or two. The last job he had was at Nintendo doing video game testing--after a month or so, he decided he didn't want to go to work anymore, so he just stopped. He said, "I've got a couple hundred dollars, why would I need to go to work"?

He literally uses every second of free time for video games.

He played WoW for a LONG time. He would play day and night, etc. He finally stopped playing a few months ago and looked back thinking "what was I doing??". He sold his account on eBay for around $400.

Last night, while bored, he decided he wanted to play WoW again. He called up blizzard and told them that his account had been stolen. Without too much trouble they gave him all of the info to the account, and he re-claimed it, just leaving that other guy in the dust.

He says he plans on doing it again, when money runs out.

This whole thing really bugs me. He's literally just stealing money from whoever he does this too, and top of that, this guy had put another few hundred hours on his account (gotten him up to 70 on a few chars, flying mount, etc).

I want to help him out, he knows his wasting his life... but he seems like he doesn't really mind stealing money from people... Other than just bitching at him, how should I handle that?

i poisted a thread like this some months ago, about how my friend, a pretty good looking girl gained 50 pounds from playing wow

Call Blizzard and tell them about his scheme if he does it again. He won't know it was you: he'll assume it was one of the people he cheated.

Maybe I could just send him an email, and trick him into thinking its from blizzard?

It has absolutely nothing to do with WoW. The sooner you realize that, the better.

I have been under the impression that it was because of WoW.

What makes you say that?

When he has WoW, he plays every second of every day. When he doesn't, he is much more active.

Sometimes you need to give out a big bushel of hard lovin' to whip them wow boys into shape.

:Q Link? Pics?

Report that he sold his account and then reported it stolen. They may ban him for that, as it is against the ToS.

Yeah, I think that is probably what I'll do.

Agreed. If WoW didn't get him first, it would've been something else.

I've been a long time WoW player and when WoW was out for a year, I had over 120 days played... note that means I averaged about 8 hours played every day. I don't blame this on WoW, I blame it on myself, although I don't regret it one bit. I'd much rather play WoW and not hang out with people then get drunk and sexify nasty girls because of beer goggles during college 😛.

Beat him with a wet noodle.

One of the best things you could try is to get him out more. The more you get him active with friends and such, the more likely you are to break him of his habit.

Nah, not if his mind is still on it. Trust me on this, I hated it when people tried to get me to do things when I just wanted to go to a raid or something 😛.

Yeah, and once and a while he does go out.. it's just not often.

Another friend of mine is actually living with him now, at his parents house. He tries to get him to go out all the time, but it hardly ever works.

Plant a bug in his hear by saying "You know, in the end, every single quest on that game is pretty much "Go somewhere, kill things, and get a prize. It never really ends".

It takes a while but after a few weeks, most people I've said this to stopped playing because of that realization.
