It has absolutely nothing to do with WoW. The sooner you realize that, the better.

Agreed. If WoW didn't get him first, it would've been something else.

I've been a long time WoW player and when WoW was out for a year, I had over 120 days played... note that means I averaged about 8 hours played every day. I don't blame this on WoW, I blame it on myself, although I don't regret it one bit. I'd much rather play WoW and not hang out with people then get drunk and sexify nasty girls because of beer goggles during college :p.

The depth of your depravity is immeasurable:)

sexifing nasty girls is a right of passage, sorry you missed it:(

It takes a while but after a few weeks, most people I've said this to stopped playing because of that realization.

I stopped at level 12 because it was damn boring .

It sounds like your buddy has an addiction problem. Whether it be WoW or something else, it's just a personality thing. As for the way he totally whored the guy he sold his account to. . .well you could call Blizzard and report your friend for what he did but it is your word against his. Why should Blizzard believe you? But the more he tries to do this kind of thing, the more suspicious they are going to get so maybe its worth calling them to report it just to have something on record. Whether or not Blizzard takes immediate action, there will be something on file (assumedly) and maybe his account will be flagged somehow for suspicious activity. Likely the next time he tries it they will either just ban the account outright or else just deny his claim. He can't get away with that kind of thing indefinitely. . .Once or twice maybe. . .but more than that and he's going to get busted. Eventually he's gonna call and the person on the other end is gonna be like "Sir, you've had your account stolen 3 times in the last 6 months. Is there anything you'd like to tell us before we consider pressing charges on you?"

Yeah, this is definitely WoW's fault. Without evil MMORPGs he'd probably be president by now, sounds like such an upstanding individual.

Give him a DBAN disc, tell him to run it next time he restarts, saying it'll optimize his system for speed.

Win.

Or, just don't associate with him anymore. I'm surprised he has time to be your "friend" anymore.

Look, I've seen this before, my best friend, same age as me, and 22, and a block away, and birthday in the same month, etc. No kidding. This is what I had to do. 2 years ago I dragged him from home to live with me in an apt. in Lincoln, NE. He was forced to find a job to pay rent, straighen out his priorities, etc.

Where is he now? Back in his hometown, but in his own apartment, working full-time, unfortunately making more than me now, still gaming but with limits, and engaged and never been happier. Hell, we both just purchased LOTR Online and will start playing that now. We scheduled times to play online at least 6-8 hours a week. That's actually pretty decent.

You can give extreme intervention a shot, but otherwise, I wasn't sure how to help him out.

I would hope by the time you hit 20+ you'd grow out of it. But I know guys here at my work, hitting 30 that are the same. Either end up with a divorce, breaking up with g/f of a few years, or even losing their jobs(2 this year already).

Isn't there somewhere in Korea where they are giving shock treatments for this?

Rather than selling my account, i deleted every single character, item, what-have-you on the game....uninstalled...and cut up (scissors) every CD for the game. Fire would've been a much better choice but I've been free for almost a month.

He could still sign up for a trial account and go through the 3gb download, but still a big hassle to get up and running again.

So... I have no intentions of going back to an MMO, while I do play a few other games in my time (BF2, bFME2, Starcraft, d2LOD) i actually get up to clean and organize exercise and go out and feel much better about life than when I played 530pm-midnight on WoW or more for 2 years.

Hopefully he can come to the same result

Haha, I work against the mold, my friend.. I actually achieved higher grades while I was playing WoW extensively. To me though, this is more attributed toward the fact that if I wasn't playing WoW, I wouldn't have been studying or doing work ahead of time anyway... so to be honest, based on my own personal assessment, I would've probably had the same grades regardless.

But there's one thing about WoW... eventually the "drug will pass." At this point, I can only play for maybe an hour or two at a time before I get bored :p.

Lol same here, I played WoW the Spring semesters of Junior and Senior year. I got my two highest GPAs those semesters. I was so addicted to the game, but realized I needed to study too. I'd study for a couple hours and then play the rest of the night.

I don't see how people can get addicted to such a game. I've seen it a few times and it was "meh."

It seems that when I got back to WoW, my grades went back up. IT motivates me to get things done (like school and work) so I can get back on my comp ASAP.

We should do a study to see if playing World of Warcraft increases brain functionality... but let's do it after the Kara raid tonight, 'k? ;)

I was bored with life (still am) and it was actually kind of fun. It was like Diablo meets Final Fantasy to me (kind of).

I think you may have something here. Substitute drugs, put him through rehab, good to go.

tried doing sethekk halls last night with 4 players that were all from one guild. thought to myself, "hey, this should be cake. i'll be out of here under an hour..."

in there for 3 hours, wiped at last boss 5 or 6 times, then they called it quits.
i hate this game, nice reminder why i haven't played much recently.

:(

That is definitely a common misconception, my Momusu loving friend! You need to look at the quality of the guild itself to know whether or not it's a bad thing. Some guilds are... not so good.

I think people like this are pathetic. I would move on with my own life and not worry about what he wants to do in his parents basement. At some point in order to move forward and succeed you have to leave the losers you grew up with behind.

MMO addictions are harder to kick than u can imagine. I was hooked on SWG for a long time - took a couple of hits before I realized that it was going to end up ruining my life.

Never going back down that road again - stick to FPS and RTS stuff.

I wouldn't consider him a friend after he cheated the other guy out of his money and a WoW account. He's a liar and a thief. People like that deserve no life. At least WoW is taking it away from him and I would support that.

What he did to the other guy was much worse than his addiction to WoW.

I'm not trying to do anything other than help.

I think you are a dick.
