commercials that are full of shit annoy me regardless of the company advertising :p

M$ M$ M$ M$

Hope you self destructed there like your pc. :p

uuuuhhhh, yeah.

so apple makes another commercial in it's big budget, high profile ad campaign slamming ms for advertising. rofl, you sheep will buy any goddamn thing.

Hahaha. Kind of funny there. You're the sheep for buying and defending M$.

i'm not defending anyone. where did i say i was using microsoft products? that's right, i didn't.

i'm pointing out the mind-blowing hypocrisy of apple's "vista advertising" ad, and the complacency of apple lovers with the classic apple goodthink. never mind the ad itself is factually very incorrect, but you probably don't want to go there.

like i said before "M$" = moron factor 10

Okay, so you didn't defend M$. But you're still sheep :p
Vista sucks anyway. Haven't used Apple so I can't say. But the Apple commercials are much better.

nothing to do with nervousness.

Apple is winning marketshare from many that would be better suited with a PC based on price.

However, with the latest Macs being able to run both Macintosh/Apple and PC software at the same time in the same session....the bar has been raised.

My brother has an uber laptop running OSX / Windows and had all sorts of stuff up at the same time, it was insane.

Not to mention the Apple's trackpad is crazy advanced. You can do a ton of short cuts on it (rotate documents, zoom, shrink, etc...). First time I saw one that allowed you to use two fingers at the same time.

Now, yes you can run that OS on other machines, but it's against the TOS....so illegal.

Hmmm...I would have to check the market-share numbers and get back to you on that.

In what market? Both companies have branched out into consumer electronics, and Apple is doing pretty well at it.

Obviously the 'I'm a PC' ad campaign is not about the iPod or the iPhone. Don't be stupid.

I said their marketing works amazingly well, I wasn't talking about the Mac vs PC ads specifically. But fine, here you go:
http://www.computerworld.com/a...asic&articleId=9054798

A one year growth rate of 28% is pretty good.

But the thing is, market share doesn't tell the whole story. Apple gets their customers to pay more for the same hardware.

I didn't say that their marketing isn't good - if you had read the thread, I already said that it is. I said that their market share still blows, even if it's up.

Nah, that's been debunked with numerous comparisons. They just don't sell low-end hardware.

When I bought a new laptop in March, I configured virtually identical systems from Dell and Apple. I say 'virtually' because the Dell was actually slightly more powerful. Cost? $1500 for Dell, $2200 for Apple. You're right though - they just don't sell low end hardware!

Wish they did, $2,000 for a 15" laptop is too much :(

Note: I'm just whining because I'm on a student budget ;)

It is some of the best ownage i've seen in a while....

Actually its the other way round. I liked Apples rebuttal commercial.

Apple's rebuttals were terrible and pointless. They mock Microsoft for spending money on ads.......really? Apple is mocking somebody for spending money on advertising??? Apple lives on advertising! It's what they do! It was absurd.

The other new one - the buzzer for the word Vista - is also pointless. I guess Apple's marketing staff has missed the Mojave commercials MS has been running, which very clearly show surprised people saying "this is Windows Vista??? Wow!"
The Mojave commercial is horrible.

Basically, MS had to trick some newbs into thinking Vista was "cool". And you actually thought the clueless look on their hapless faces bolsters the Windows Vista image? WOW! is right.

I didn't say those were good commercials - I said they very clearly say "Vista". Reading is an important skill when posting on internet forums.

for the sake of argument, let's say i'm an apple user and a video game player. we can go straight for the mac pro (starting at $2799) since imacs are permanently and hopelessly underpowered in the video department, and only the mac pro is upgradable.

we can ditch 1 xeon (industrial parts marketed to normal users, yay) chip, since i'm not running industrial-strength media editing (-500)
add 2GB of fb-dim (more industrial hardware), total of 4GB (+500)
add additional 1TB hard drive (unknown cache size, it is at least 3x the going price) (+450)
add nvidia 8800gt, the most powerful video processing option (+150)
we do have the option of 4 radeon 2600's for $390, but 4x crap is still crap

total cost: $3399

i can build a machine with superior game performance, while losing nothing, for a third of that.

Maybe that will make Apple stop making absurd/idiotic commercials? My Vista laptop is as stable as my Dual G5 powermac.

You can't honestly believe the price tag is worth it. I just can't believe anyone is that naive. Not only that, but you pay a premium to throw it away if you want to upgrade it. Win/win.

It's just marketing. It's the same thing with politics. Are both candidates really the scummy lowlifes the other candidate's marketing team makes them out to be? No, they're both good guys who are capable of running the country. But in order to win, they feel they have to bash each other. It's like being a troll, but on CNN ;)

I think it's odd that Apple spends so much time bashing Vista while Microsoft doesn't bash the Iphone at all. While the Iphone is innovative, it sucks at the one thing that phones are meant for: talking to people. My roommates, who all own an Iphone, never stop complaining about the dropped calls and the phone freezing up on them.

LOL Apple. They're only relevant in iPods/iPhones yet they spend so much on their advertising for Macs.

Not to be outdone, Apple has pledged to send Justin Long to your house to charmingly condescend to you about his various abilities while still pretending to be your best friend

That's ridiculous. Everyone who isn't a moran knows Apple shit is more expensive, however its always due to the top notch industrial design - whether or not that is worth it is up to each to decide for themselves. Example - Mac Mini gives you ~$200 worth of hardware but ends up costing $600 for the design - the days of the colorful yet cost effective (where you were actually getting a bargain for your total system) iMac CRT boat anchors are long gone.

Of course this argument is made completely moot by yourself...
