Actually almost everything has changed. No one would have been suspended for something so silly in the 1970's. The schools were not being used as publicly funded day care centers back then.

Oh please...There was a kid who got suspended for having a loud muffler. There was a kid who got suspended for painting a rock another schools colors. There was a kid who got suspended for participating in an anti-war rally on a week end.

The list goes on and on. As far as the "schools were not being used as publically funded day care centers back then," I quote my Assistant Principal: "I'm not being paid to educate you, I'm being paid to keep you off the street!"

Yup, things sure have changed

Sorry guess it was different where you grew up then. I graduated in 1974 and that attitude was not the norm in Fairfax County at that time. They only suspended students for serious things. Hell, before they made it ok to smoke outside the schools the first time you got caught smoking in a bathroom netted you a letter home to your parents, not a suspension. Ditto for skipping class or any number of other rule infractions. 99% of the time you would receive detention and your parents would not even be involved unless you did something truly serious.

Reason # 1458951 why I send my kids to a private school instead of to a government school with "zero-intelligence" policies.

Heh, nice. Maybe we should just start putting kids into comas when they turn 5, and wake them up again at age 18.

so, he would not have gotten into trouble if the other kid said he gave the suspeded kid the skittles instead of selling? I thought the no selling candy rule applied to the SCHOOL itself and not to its student body?

I think he got off with a slap on the wrist. If it were up to me, I'd have him behind bars for life and even possibly death row. Today he's buying skittles, tomorrow he'll be dealing drugs.

Yeah, I really hope my experiences growing up in Hennipen county weren't typical.

Highlights: The day Haile Selassie died, The big news story on page one was about a puppy while his obit was on page 3 of the 'C' section.

There were no blues, rock and roll, jazz or anything sung by a "Black" artist played by any station on the radio.

The Mother Earth News could only be purchased at adult book stores.

Footage of American's dieing in combat was shown every day at 5pm but, seeing 'Genie's' navel was a no no.

I know, right? It's commonly known that Skittles are a gateway candy. If it had been a nice, wholesome candy like M&Ms, I'd have no problem with it.

If it was Neco Wafers or Circus Peanuts, the kid should have been severely beaten. Skittles are acceptable.
