So,

One of the laptops at work started having some strange symptoms. Ran PC-Doctor on it, and it could not complete HDD surface scan (can not read drive 1...). So I call IBM as the laptop was under warranty. This happens at 9,30 AM. They immediately gave me a case number, and said someone from support will call me soon...

At 10,30 AM I get a call from IBM courier saying he will be in my office in 30 mins.

At 11,10 AM I have a new disk installed in the laptop.

They apologize, that the product recovery media will take a little longer, as they are made in Greenock Scotland!

Next day 11,55 AM UPS courier comes with an envelope which has the recovery media for that specific laptop... W2KPro + latest drivers + IBM software...

I just could not beleive it! In less than 2 hrs I have a new disk and in little more than 24 hrs I have the media that was speifically ordered half way accross the world...

IBM rules... that is all 😀

I had the same experience with Dell. Not quite as fast, but it was next-day service for sure. They flew the replacement part (in this case an LCD) immediately to the repair man. Of course, others that are reading this should beware; it is often customary for companies like IBM and Dell to provide premium service to corporate purchasers rather than standard customers. Although my notebook from Dell is for personal use, I bought it through my company's employee purchase system. I'd be surprised if this type of support is customary.

I've heard that IBM is great from others as well!

I've had good service with HP.

Sent it in Friday; was at my door on Monday by Noon. Wouldn't been next day had I not shipped it over the weekend.

Just bought an IBM T42 through NC State bookstore with 3-year depot warranty upgraded with ThinkPad Protection (accidental damage coverage). From what I've read, they make every effort to repair & mail it back to you the same business day they receive it @ the repair depot. That sounds pretty hot to me

Had a memory error problem a while back in my sister thinkpad t41. told them i could install the memory myself. tech support guy came anyways with the memory and just replaced it, simple and easy.
