If it is 2-3 weeks away before it drops to merely MSRP 650 I'm not sure I'll get one period honestly, that means it'll be nearly a month before I have it which is one month closer to the next gen.

so you paid $599 for your 256GTX, but $100 more for a card with 25% higher clocks and 256mb more (and faster) memory is too much?

certainly if you paid $600 for that card, $700 on the day of release isn't bad? and as stated earlier, they'll come down in a short time as more vendors have them available.

newegg and other places will do this as long as people keep buying the stuff anyway, and frankly it's not as bad as the extra $100 gouging (50% over msrp??) newegg was attempting on the x800gto2, lol...

The BFG website seems to indicate that they come with COD2, so all vendors should have the free COD with the BFG flavor.

There simply becomes a limit to which something is not worth the premium

You could buy GTX 256's for 550.oo if they werent the OCed versions when they first came out, that's 200 dollars less than these are retailing for, and they are not even a new generation

You can almost buy 2x256GTX for what one of these costs... The GTX was nearly 2x faster than the previous gen, this is only 25% faster and almost 2x the price.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that at 750, I could buy 2xGTX and have the same net budget leftover that I would buying one 512mb and selling my current for 350

how much faster is the gtx 512 than an overclocked gtx 256 at high resolutions? I have a dell 2405 and would love to play at the default resolution of 1920x1200.

Check out Hexus's review, they have benches for that resolution.

Please, this thread is flamebait. Let's keep it civil.

Got mine at MSRP day it was released in Compusa, maybe Compusa will have the GTX512 as well?

This isn't nearly as bad as the x850xt pe. Newegg had it for 999 for about a month after it came out, and the msrp of it was 550.

Never bought a brand new, popular car either have ya?

For prespective, the fact you bought a $599 gtx just boggles my mind... Oo

The 7800GT SLi should perform better than the 512MB GTX shouldn't it?

The price is high, there's no doubt about that, but at this point, I think I'm just going to grab a 7800GTX 256MB Overclocked card from BFG or XFX... I plan on upgrading next year to a DX10 card anyway. Unless anyone has anything absolutely crucial to say to sway me away from doing that.

Sometimes no. The GTX 512 is a freaking monster!
