There is that type of talent nowadays, you obviously are not looking in the right places.
And there are some hip hop productions that are every bit as genius as a great concerto by one of the classical masters.

Please reply with the songs which are as brilliantly composed and performed as classical/instrumental music. It's a whole other ballgame I'd say. Rap is focused on words and lyrics, that's pretty simple stuff in my opinion. Compare it with conveying emotions and thoughts with only instruments, performed by dozens of people syncronizing their instrument playing and it's simply epic.
I'm honestly not sure how anyone could compare rap/hip hop with classical/instrumental music, it's simply too different.

exactly how I feel. Rap can be fun...but its just not to the same level of brilliance IMHO

Aesop Rock - Labor Days
Immortal Technique - Revolutionary Vol. 2

Sure, they are not comparable, but they are both valid forms of music and both can have brilliance.
I'm just going to leave it at that, I'm really not trying to get into a "OMG!!! RAP IS NOT REAL MUSIC BECAUSE IT JUST ISN'T!!!!" debate.

I think you have a twisted and misunderstood of "brilliance."

There are many fantastic composers, performers and artists. Probably a whole lot better raw talent than "back in the day" because there are more doors and avenues available for people to pursue those talents.

As somebody mentioned you have your Rachmaninoff, then you have current performers (some of whom composed their own bits and pieces) such as Yo-Yo Ma, Vanessa-Mae, Itzhak Perlman, John Williams, Sarah Brightman, Webber, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, and so forth.

Just because you do not wish to recognize people such as that, does not mean they do not exist nor the talent does not exist.
