It should, as the demo was not making use of multiple cpu cores.

I will wait for retail benchmarks or an updated demo then before buying. I may just wait and see what kind of performance the new nVidia and AMD cards bring to the table too.

That's the idea. That is exactly what I am doing.

I managed to get the x64 version working, I can confirm it's much better than the demo. At 1680x1050 it is actually almost playable at all very high settings, no AA at ~15fps average. I set Volumetric effects, sound quality, post-processing to high, and shadows to medium, no AA and I get ~25fps average, very smooth and playable, looks fantastic. I will buy the now that I know it runs OK, I was a little put off after the poor performance of the demo, I wasn't going to buy right away, but now I will.

DX 9 or 10?

DX10, on Vista x64 it automatically runs the x64 exe in DX10 if available. Confirmed when I minimized the game, the button in the taskbar said "Crysis x64 DX10".

I tried enabling AA with horrible results, although it looked really good I would max out at 5fps no matter the AA level, it just doesn't seem to work properly.

what resolution are you running it at? 19x12? Crysis is extremely demanding on video RAM due to a ton of hi-res textures. Even a GTX will run out of memory in this case and AA will contribute to that. In other there's a good chance the performance hit you're dealing with is related to a lack of video memory.

My friend just upgraded from 2GB to 4GB, loaded Vista x64 and said the demo runs much better that it did before. We weren?t sure if it was the additional 2GB of RAM, or the x64, but it's much better now.

I asked him where the game was installed to and he said it was still in the 32-bit program files folder, but it looks like it still makes a performance difference.

OP, that?s great news to hear! Although I wasn't all that disappointed with the performance in the first place, it?s always nice to know it will run better when the full game comes out.

On that note, it looks like the release date has been pushed up to Wednesday at BB and CC, and an ad I saw for Frys said Thursday by noon. Also, most if not all of the places I saw are selling it for $39.99. You can look up the ads online and see for yourself. (I can't link them right now though.)

yep. Its running great with my system.

I have my global 3d settings set to 16/16 with basically everything set to high.

Ingame, it optimizes my settings to HIGH. AA is off, and I'm getting beautiful graphics, smooth as hell and FPS in the 30-40s. Cut scenes are roughly around 25 or so.

The game is simply awesome.

Wait, the game has been released early ? How do people around already know that the final version runs faster than the Demo ?

Have I missed its release or are there some lucky gamers around working for the press or something like that ?

well a lot of crysis can be corrected using driver level tweaks, that is, atleast for me. I run the sp demo of crysis on my rig: c2d 3.2ghz and x1950xt 670mhz and it took some tweaking but everything runs fine.

c2d e4300 @ 3.19ghz
ati x1950xt @ 670mhz gpu 1.47vGpu 1880mhz mem DX9
2gb DDR2 supertalent 2x1024 @ 900mhz 4-4-4-12
gigabyte ga965-ds3
win xp pro sp2 dx9

I use ati traytools & ati-tool keeping the hotkey poller on. I run the ati overdrive 3 utility function built into the ccc to put the gpu to 676 mhz, this apparently has the greatest effect increasing the fps of the game. I also checked the affinity of my crysis.exe process in taskmgr to be sure it was using both cores. - it really doesn't matter much, but may give u 2 -3 fps more given that crysis.exe is really only using 36 % of 1 core in the first place. I also keep my fan speed on 100% to keep cool the gpu because of the increased vgpu, but stock i only upped it .025 volts from 1.45 to 1.475. it still needs 100% fan speed on the stock cooler, (which i reseated with some AS5 when i bought the card) to keep the load temp under 80 deg celcius.
i put the mem up using ati tray tools and when i game in 3d, i keep the card running on 3d clocks until i quit gaming. 2d mode is 599mhz core.

From within ati tray tools i select direct3d options and put my texture and mipmap to Quality instead of "high quality" because it doesnt make much visual difference to texture quality ingame (even on high qual textures) but saves you 4-5fps avg. i keep the catalyst A.I. on low, i read that it works better on crysis low, but to tell you the truth it maybe gives me .5 a frame better than 'high' setting. using ati-tool i select x1x00 overclocking and enable 3d clocks and also geometry instancing. i have some pictures of the incredible visual quality if anyone would like to see it.

i only play on a 17inch crt, but i like it - its a trinitron. and i run crysis at 1024 by 768 with no AA or AF (duh) i wish i had hardware that could handle it in crysis. I oc'd my gfx card with a voltage increase and my cpu to the point to where its stable within crysis for an unlimited amount of time. It works good. and you can compare your frame rates with mine if you wish.

Oh one more thing. - i used that hack to run the dx10 features of crysis, - the light shining thru the palm leaves from the sun, the real time day - night cycle, and the vector motion blur, and the water reflections. INCLUDING access to all the 'very high' settings in the demo, on my dx9 card from within XP. link -http://www.ngohq.com/news/1249...igh-settings-hack.html

So feel free to compare your setup with mine, i would like to know how 8800gt's and gts compare to mine with a similar cpu, but from what ive gathered from reading some forums is that its not that much higher in performance levels. (although if i had that card i would have crysis running fast as lightning with a little tweaking).

With the very high dx10 settings i run at about 15-20 fps avg at 1024 res. But the biggest impact to my hardware is shader & postprocessing. i like the postprocessing so i keep it on high.

For comparison purposes, i run everything on 'very high' with shaders & sound on "med'
for the most part it stays around 40-45fps dipping down to as low as 23 at the part where that soldiers body vaporizes in the tree.

The demo ran smoother for me :( Game now has a strange 3-4 second pause occurring only in 1680x1050 every now and then. Still playable, but I wanna see it in all its glory. Guess I'll just put it in the queue behind the other dozen games I want to play and just get to it after I step-up to whatever card is released in the next couple months or go SLI when the GTs come down to earth.

Just picked up the Special Edition from EB games (released early here in Australia for people who preordered), comes with a concept artwork book, an audio soundtrack disc, a 'special features' disc which is what looks to be a 'making of' kinda thing, an activation code to redeem my 'special edition' vehicle for multiplayer and the game disc itself. All comes in a cool silver container- will update later after install and initial impressions.

EDIT: After playing through the first few levels it feels like a great game, I only wish the hardware was up to the task. In DX10 mode it is about the same if not like 2fps better than the demo, however I find it most enjoyable and playable in DX9 mode which runs at around 30fps avg @ 1920x1200 most settings on medium/high.

Arrrg! I be wanting me copy now! I've been waitin on this game for 3 years... I've been reading stuff on it forever it seems... and I've got a few hours left on my EA downloader thing. They make you PAY now for extended download time. Say I want to redownload my game in 7 months, if I don't pay the 5.99 fee I have to repurchase it. But at least I don't have to have the CD laying around. With the 900 or cd's I have, its nice to consolidate. - Time for an external backup hdd ;)

If the game is smoother from the demo, hot damn! This is gunna rock.

I picked a helluva time to upgrade to a 24" LCD !! I could see Crysis running OK at 1280x1024 on my old 19" panel, but now that I'm at 1920x1200 I am thinking of adding a second 8800GTS to my rig just for this game, which is a ridiculous $400 investment (eVGA ACS edition) ... for a game ... so, I seriously doubt the financial investment will be even remotely worth it.

^^ why get another 8800 GTS? Get the 8800 GT 512 for SLI. Just as good, if not better than GTS.

And Im glad the full version runs better than the demo although the demo ran fine on my system (Q6600 @ 3.2; 8800 GTS 640 @ 620/1900; 2 Gb RAM; WinXP dx9) at all high settings at 1600x1200 (even did the dx10 effects on dx9 tweak)

wow, try putting the texture quality, sound & shadows on low.

And, put everything else on 'very high'

Super good framerates, all the special effects still work, the textures dont even look that bad(at my res of 1024x768)!!!!

Note: by putting texture shadows and sound to low i go from 17 fps to 37 fps. And the image quality is not that noticable.

Just use 1680x1050. Don't know which 24" you have, but my Dell scales very nicely. Obviously 1920x1200 is sexier...

Does sound make that much of a difference? I'm running an x-fi xtrememusic, and I figured that the sound should be fine on "high". In other words, negligible differences in frame rates. Is that not the case??? How much difference we talking?

The EA Downloader is a goofy thing... If you uninstall the downloader or change the down load directory, it removes the game file(s) you downloaded. You can, however, copy the downloaded files elsewhere before you uninstall the EA Downloader to enusre you have a backup. To retrieve/decrypt/uninstall the game files, you (re)install the EA Downloader and make the location you moved your files to the EA Downloader download directory. You have to make another copy of the files in a different location if you want to uninstall the EA Downloader again. Basically, you have to do this every time you want to uninstall the Downloader, or you have to re-download all the files again. I guess, you could burn them to DVD if you want...

EA also conveniently provided their Downloader with a button that lets you to erase the mutli-GB downloaded files with one click, while at the same time offering a service (at an additional cost) that will allow you to download the game (you paid $50 for) for up to 2 whole years... Chances are half the people who bought Crysis using the Downloader won't even be able to download the game again by the time they get a rig that can play it.

I bought Hellgate London through the EA Downloader, and never again will I use that 'service'. I totally felt robbed from the moment I clicked "submit". So much so, that I wanted to see if I could cancel my order (and wait to I could buy the game at a brick and mortar store), but you can't find any contact info for EA customer service anywhere. EA could take a few tips from Valve, who IMO have done a really good job with making Steam work relatively seamlessly for customers while protecting their interests.

Thanks! Another feature that helped me was to turn shadow quality to low [DX10] - that alone helped speed up any areas with ice/snow...

Or run the game in DX9 mode...

well i can definitely tell the difference in the stereo like quality of the sound going from high to low, but i sacrafice it for the 2-3 fps it gains from going to "low". I feel its worth it because i need every frame i can get at this point.

i upgraded from a x1800xt to an 8800GT and such a dramatic difference (unplayable to smooth). Those of you in the thread that mentioned still having x1800xt, now is the time to upgrade to a 8800GT. I'm running at 1280 with very high settings- but I'm running in DX9 instead of DX10. I didn't think the difference between the two was huge and it gives a nice performance bump to go DX9.

It's nice to see it getting a performance bump at 64 bit, but I'm not willing to re-install vista to 64 bit just for this game

This game is so GPU dependent it's not even funny- but thats good for those of us with older systems
