Used to be a decent diet soda drinker - and I have to agree that Coke Zero wasn't half bad.

However... I've take on a new dieting.. one where my drinks actually have calories. I have dropped all soda (Except an occasional Diet Monster for HORRIBLE nights of sleep) and opted to go for any juice that is 100% juice. It's actually worked pretty nicely, there are calories in juice, so you have to watch it. I can't speak for health nut retards that say drinking juice is going to somehow help you calorie wise, because last I checked a calorie is a calorie.

What I do with juice is fill up the cup with ice, then toss the juice in so that it gets a nice balance of water and juice to make it last longer.

Juice is fine, but the problem is the acid is terrible for your teeth (it's a lot stronger than sodas), and 1 16oz glass of orange juice is like eating 12 oranges. Adding 3/4 water to 1/4 juice works pretty well.

I heard Coke Zero is Original Diet Coke, and the soda labeled Diet Coke now, is Diet (New) Coke.

Not sure if bullshit, but Coke Zero is great.

Coke Zero uses acesulfame potassium (ace-k) and aspartame, where Diet Coke is 100% sweetened with aspartame.

I've seen it advertised containing Splenda as well...not sure if Splenda = aspartame though.

I saw someone mention the new TEN sodas from 7-Up (and their brands). I've been tempted to try them to see if they're better as 10 calories per serving is much, much better than 150+ in most non-diet sodas.

Diet A&W is pretty good also if I'm in the mood for a guilt free root beer.

I prefer Diet Mug over A&W, but only slightly.

and I like pepsi max as well

Pepsi Max also has a lot of caffeine in it. Somewhere around 60mg where I think Mountain Dew has 40-something.

Five Guys has a couple Coca-Cola Freestyle machines here.

Are those the ones with 100+ flavors? I hate those machines, because people take years making a decision! :p They have one at the local Firehouse Subs, and the line is always so long.

I've seen it advertised containing Splenda as well...not sure if Splenda = aspartame though.

I don't think it is. Splenda is nasty. I've baked with it in the pastand the aftertaste is TERRIBLE. However, Splenda is okay in baking if you go half-and-half with normal sugar. I've also tried soda made with Stevia (the Zevia brand), and that was nasty too. The initial taste was so bad that you didn't have to worry about an aftertaste.

Ehh, I don't really do pop other than occasional root beer or maybe Dr Pepper like once a week or so. I prefer coffee, beer, and liquor. Coke Zero is indeed drinkable, though, if I am drinking coke, I would much rather go to a Mexican place and get a Mexican coke with real cane sugar.

Your best bet is to somehow just stop drinking soda/pop all together.
Now, after a year of not having a pop, I find it pretty gross when I drink it. It feels like it's eating the teeth right out of my mouth. I'm glad I cut it out all together, many years ago.

Coke Zero is some of the worst soda I've ever had. But I think years of drinking only Diet Coke has made me think regular soda is awful too (waaaaaay too sweet for me).

If you liked Coke Zero you'll probably like the zero calorie Pepsi made with Splenda. I couldn't tell a difference between it and regular full calorie Pepsi when I tried it.

Partially right, but not quite (unless I misunderstand you)

That's some of the difference, but it just boils down to the flavors they're trying to make. When they originally made diet coke they were just trying to make a diet cola... it wasn't meant to be an exact duplicate of coke (or they tried and failed). Diet coke got popular and they decided that flavor was so popular that they would make regular coke taste like that too, and that's where the "new" coke came in. People hated it though, so they doubled back and went back to "coke classic" which we have today. Coke Zero was a diet drink made to get as close as they could to coke classic, not a separate flavor like diet coke was.

I like the taste better than regular diet coke, but I get headaches from coke zero if I drink it more than every once in awhile.

Is carbonation alone bad for the teeth? Isn't that the myth.

I thought it was the corn syrup.

Diet Soda is actually a diet killer, much like regular soda. Best to steer clear of any soda if you're serious about dieting. BUT, soda is fucking fantastic, just no way around it. So I enjoy diet cherry pepsi and coke zero. Coke Zero is indeed very good.

There's citric acid in there too, but not nearly as much as what's found in orange or grapefruit juice.

I will disagree and vote for Pepsi Max.

I tried them both because people swore they tasted like their non-diet counterparts. I don't get it. They both taste pretty bad. Better than Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi, but I only mean better in the sense that getting punched in the face twice is better than getting punched in the face three times.

That said, Coke and Pepsi are too sweet. I like RC. I wish they made a sugar version of it.

News to me... I just heard that soda, tea, and coffee is bad for your teeth.

As far as diet cola goes, Coke Zero is probably the best tasting and the closest to what it's trying to imitate. Still a far cry from Coke Classic, or the holy grail that is Mexican Coca-Cola.

My dad has an addiction to Coke. It's literally all I ever see him drink aside from coffee. Back in the day he used to get the 24 cases of Coke Classic (remember those) and motor through it in a week. That is until he got diagnosed with high blood pressure and hypertension. Since it has an obscene amount of sugar in it, it had to go. He refused to stop drinking cola so we switched him over to Coke Zero when it first came out. He still drinks 3 or 4 cans of it a day on average. At least that I know of. Even drinks it right before bed.

I used to be a 1 can a day guy but I've cut back considerably. I drink mostly water and tea during the week. I only drink pop on weekends now. You get to that point in your life when you realize you've had enough treats.

The big downside with diet soda is not so much that the sweeteners are bad for you. It's that your body is stupid. When you consume something that tastes sweet, your digestive system expects to be flooded with sugar and begins producing insulin. With nothing for the insulin to process, your body starts craving more food. So diet sodas can act as a catalyst for unhealthy/over eating.

A quick DuckDuckGo shows Coke to be ~2.6pH, and grapefruit juice ~3.0. That's pretty acidic.

Diet anything sucks. I don't do low fat, low sugar, or low carbs. The closest is 2% milk, and I only get that for shelf life. I'd rather have a little bit of something worth eating than all the crap I can shove in my face.
