good for Obama. he got the timing right. but NK has a pattern of stuff like this. in a year or so NK will be back at it.

frankly anyone that believes anything coming from NK is wel..goofy
I don't follow NK too closely, but is there any indication that the apple didn't fall far from the tree?

The North Koreans will probably take the food and then continue to develop their nuclear program.

Honestly someone should've dropped a MOAB on Kim's funeral. I'd assume that only their healthy, well fed troops attended the funeral and NK would've collapsed. They were/are still at a state of war aren't they? Just (kinda) kidding.

The U.S. was getting pretty close in negotiations prior to Kim's death. Negotiations were suspended for a few months, then resumed.

Contrast this with calling North Korea part of an "axis of evil." The views of many nations toward the U.S. and its citizens have increased greatly over the past few years, thanks to better diplomacy.

This.

Though I think the death of Dear Leader and transfer of power to a (likely) woefully unqualified child has had the largest immediate impact on current events. I imagine pressure towards these negotians came from the friendlier China and Russia, due to their own concerns over DPRNK stability.

Though there is no question that Obama has done a lot to replace our image in the world stage as a nation to respect, and work with--rather than the hated bullies that Bush, Cheney Co. and their supporters wanted us to be.

Wow another win for Obama. North Korea ignores him and launches rocket which fails. Crow served to all at the table.

Damn that Obama, turning the economy around and using diplomacy to make the world safer for our children.

At this rate Putin and Saakashvili will be drinking Vodka while Netanyahu and Abbas dance at a party in the West Bank.

I thought false and misleading titles were banned?

It couldn't possibly be thanks to Obama according to the Republican experts in here.

The launch kind of put the stake in the heart of those who had to give credit to O, and as resident gadfly Obama is no more immune to my barbs than Bush, although to be fair I hold him as one who should neither have credit or blame. This is a sad repetition of the past antics. NK has played Presidents for decades. In reality my amusement has to do with thralls. They are endlessly entertaining and the current crop is the same as the last.

Sorry, but I honestly thought the thread ended in unicorns.

god bless Obama, directly responsible for Kim Jong Il's death and forcing North Korea to consider policy changes.

I don't see how. Obama is pursuing the same foreign policy on North Korea that America has pursued for almost the last two decades. America isn't being 'played', we know exactly what is going on and we're doing it on purpose because it's the best policy we have available.

If people think that Obama believes he's going to be able to negotiate North Korea into becoming a responsible member of the world, dismantle its weapons programs, etc, they are terribly naive. He's playing the same game we always play. All we care about is North Korea staying in its hole.

Played in the sense that we're not going to see a significant change in reality. For clarity I understand that Obama understands that. It's akin to the ME "peace process" who's utility was not to achieving a resolution but preventing outright war. It's Obamas watch now and like the presidents before he has those who love or hate them. Hero worship being rather more irritating than the reverse for no particular reason, I think it's good to realize the limits of international relations. There are some things that Presidents ought not to be saddled with.
