god bless Obama, directly responsible for Kim Jong Il's death and forcing North Korea to consider policy changes.

I believe President Obama would never get credit for anything from the right no matter what it is...case in point bagging OBL.

I also gave him major props for that ballsy move. Also major props for his credit card bill, I wish he'd do more in that line.

Guys, the purpose of these talks in general is not to actually get North Korea to stop, it is to impede their nuclear progress as much as possible. We know we can't actually stop them if they want to make them, but if we are able to delay their ambitions for a few years for some food and oil aid, it's worth it.

Perhaps with new leadership this will be different. I doubt it, but I hold out hope. It's certainly worth a shot though, the downside is small and the upside is huge.
Define "few".
If it's 20 years, then I'd say it's worth it.

2-3 years? Not worth it.

Anyway, aren't they a declared nuclear power now? I thought they set a bomb in some cave during the Bush administration to prove their nuclear power status or was that proven to only be a bunch of TNT's lined up together?

You must be oblivious to the facts that the most of that debt was due to policies instituted before he even reached the WH.....GWB's Wars were not cheap let alone to the Bush tax cuts and Medicare part D which are continuing to BLOAT the deficit.

The Mitt Romney campaign responded...

"Thank God we have a Republican controlled House of Representatives that brought an end to North Korea's nuclear activities."

The Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 or Credit CARD Act of 2009 is a federal statute passed by the United States Congress and signed by President Barack Obama on May 22, 2009. It is comprehensive credit card reform legislation that aims "...to establish fair and transparent practices relating to the extension of credit under an open end consumer credit plan, and for other purposes."[1] The bill was passed with bipartisan support by both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The woman who should be president instead the little twerp that is said that's it's a "modest first step" for NK's nuclear stand down so let's not get our panties in a knot quite yet.

Why isn't it worth it if it's only 2-3 years? It is a trivial sum for us, and it usually comes from US production so it's money spent within our economy. The idea that a few million in food aid would need to be tied to a two decade moratorium on nuclear activities is simply wishful thinking.

The 2006 test was either an extremely small warhead or a misfired test that only partially worked. North Korea also conducted a significantly more powerful 2009 nuclear test. Most people believe that North Korea is an active, if unsophisticated nuclear power.

Has something to do with people starving to death while their leaders spend all their money and effort to build up the military and Weapons. Didnt North Korea just threaten a holy war if South Korea had Military Drills in the South? Do you really believe these Bozo's? Get real here!

Why would they threaten the south one week and then want peace the next week? They are begging for food so they can make more weapons. It is stupid to feed this horde of devils.

My wife is from South Korea and this posturing has been going on since the 1950's. Her ancestors fought against the japanese, the Russians and the Chinese invaders from the north along with the invading North Koreans. North Korea causes its own problems.

As North Korea is asking for food all their artillery is pointed south and they stand ready to invade the south. It is the same now as it was 50 years ago. There has been no improvements. Let them eat their weapons! Let China and Russia feed them.

I don't see it as a big win for any single president. though there might have been behind door talks about NK when China's next in line came to visit.

I would agree that the cost is trivial.

The key issue is their word; are they playing for time and aid or are they serious about resolving the tensions over the nuclear program.

And to throw up a balloon to be shot down.
China stated that they are concerned about Iran and the tensions there related to Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Could China have exerted pressure on NK to straighten up?
If NK straightens up; then China can state "look and see what honest efforts will bring" w/ respect to the Iranian situation to relax tensions there.

btw I say fuck aid to North Korea unless they want to completely surrender control to the South. Enough of the shit. they can starve and die if they don't like it. they can bring war of desperation if they want, but history will never think kindly of North Korea.

It seems true enough. NK did not really have anything significant to begin with, anyway. This is also a huge blow to right-wing faction/party in South Korea.

Do you understand that the people that are starving and the people in the military/govornment are not the same?
