unless the circumstances make it very clear that i should do it eg i'm the only person who is able to do this and if i dont he/she would die. and it doesn't put my own life in danger.
One must assume that is the basis of the question.

it is a bit vague... maybe i'm thinking too much

It's a silly hypothetical question that one can't really answer unless they know that 500 miles is the difference between this stranger's life and death.

Kinda not a realistic scenario. Can't I drive? Hitch hike? Also, who says this person should be saved, and how would walking 500 miles save their life?

No. I'd be afraid I'd end up getting sued if I got there and failed to save the persons life.

ok, if you mean that i would litterally save someones life than yes, i wouldnt hesitate.

none of this walking 500 miles to raise money for research crap.

(actually, id prolley do that if i could afford the time off work/school.. it'd be a good way to see canada and try to make a difference.)

Yes I would. The only thing I would be out is time and another persons life is worth my time plus I would get some good exercise in.

Spend the rest of my life knowing I was too lazy or self centered to save a life or spend a week and a half walking. Easy choice: Buy Nikes and get going.

You could do it in less than a month.

You assume that people should disreguard their basic instinct (self preservation) in favor of conventional morals. Me, I'm not going to answer the question. I have the feeling that I would, but this would go against my whole natural instict thing I keep pushing, I want to have my cake and eat it to dammit!

no unless it was someone dear to me

if I was in a situation where some would be murdered if I didn't do this than that is different and yes I would do it in that situation

if it was someone said I am going to commit suicide unless you walk 500 miles than I wouldnt walk

its not that "I can't be bothered" but if I worried about everyone that died everyday
for 1 month of my wages I can save probably a hundred starving children if i donated the money
thousands of people die everyday due to disease and famine and not many people seem to care
so I dont see why this is any different

how can people live when there is so much death in the world , because it is human nature none of us would survive if we worried about every person on this planet's welfare

I'd give up my own life for a friend or family member. For someone I've never had any sort of contact with before, not my problem nor my concern. If that makes me a selfish bastard, so be it.

Edit: Glad you seem to be back online Skoorb. :)

yeah I guess. 500 miles really isn't that far. I might even run most of it too, just to make it more fun.

i would only do it, if it were for certain that this person would:

1. die if i didn't
2. live if i did

Yeah, same here.

Same here - if it was a guaranteed life saver, I'd do it. Plus, I'd get to take a couple days off work, at least. :)

if his life was solely in my hands then I guess I would
