Guess I'm not the loyal company man that some people are, I'd quit rather than train my replacement

If I was quitting out of my own free will, yes.

If they said.. you are gonna be fired in 2 weeks but before you go train this dude.. I would say no.

I would do a little more than say no! DAMN! That is callous, man. If there was ever something that called for making a half-assed job of it, this is it! :disgust:

Edit:
I like how Bruce Bartlett, "says fears about job loss are 'grossly overblown. It's always easy to blame foreigners.'' While it's true that foreigners are notorious scapegoats for when people lose jobs, it used to be they were just taking your place, not taking your position back home with them!

If they trapped me with that severance package thing, I'd say yes...do a piss poor job and focus all my energy on finding a new job. If they expected me to sign anything saying I couldn't leave until their training was done, I would refuse.

I replaced my train once, but I've never trained my replacement.

if my choices were:

1) laid off right now
2) work for another month and get paid (while training someone to take my job)

I'd have to take #2.

That's just outright cold. I would quit in a heartbeat, if I were to train a worker would is replacing me, only because they will work for less money.

I also know of 2-3 companies that I could get a job at almost immediately, so no worries about that, either.

Yes, I've done it. And believe me, it's impossible to do it well. It's mostly "here's the desk, here's the chair, here's the switch to turn the computer on."

The corporate version of name, rank and serial number.

If I was quitting I would, but if they were replacing me with someone cheaper....hell no, unless I got a killer severence package

They were given the option to either be laid off on a certain date or to provide training at the cost of better severence and/or a few more weeks worth of pay. It's callous but I'd take the extra $$ unless I had something else lined up.

In regards to " train the person wrong things." Industry groups are not that large that the fact wouldn't get out that you did that and your future employment opps could be very slim in an already slim market. I meet with a group of my peers every other Thursday for about 2 - 3 hours and the #1 thing I hear people passing around are "Do you know anything about John Doe? He just applied with me.".... Legal or not, it happens.

Only if it meant they would definitely put in a good word for me as a reference for future interviews. Or if I really needed them on my resume so as not to "burn bridges"... I'd do it if they asked.

Well, if you quit, you don't get severance or unemployement, so I guess I'd do it.
