It really scares me to see this happening. I really am starting to question whether I'm in the right major of study. Sh!t, if my job was going to be offshored, I might as well go into something that contained a lot of job security. Maybe I should become a nurse...health care is the boombing industry right now...or teaching.

Sure, if I got another paycheck out of it I would. If I already had something lined up though, screw them.

I'd have to take #2.
Yup - it boils down to a pride versus financial obligations choice.

correctional officer is what you want. union protection, benefits, only need a 2-yr degree, and the only time they ever close a prison is to build a bigger one. pays good too

I know someone doing that down in Texas, a max security place. Hell, you don't even need the degree. Of course you have to deal a LOT of the scum of society (chronic reoffenders are the worst of the worst) on a regular basis. Hours are pretty good, pay is decent.

If you've got the smarts and some of the background, try and get into biotech. That's where the $$ really is! Pharmacology is also going to be nuts, especially with the aging population of Boomers. Of course you have to deal with old, annoying people on a daily basis there. Still, if you think you can do it for $50/hr starting wage, go for it.

Never. This is one instance where pride passes greed. Either way I'm lookin at no paycheck. Its either now and walk with my pride, or in a few weeks and walk away with no pride, no self respect.
I wouldnt do that to myself.

Did it, had to, canned my ass! :(

I worked for Merck as a contractor as a Sysadmin. Since Merck has this "law" about not hiring without a masters degree, I was forced to train my replacement. The day after I asked if she understood what she was doing I got the call.

Contract Manager - I just wanted to tell you your being let go.
Me - Oh, well. When?
Contract Manager - Now. You can't return to the building and I will clean out your office.
Me - Ohhhh.....kay.......

I was unemployed for 6 months after that fiasco!

As has been said, it depends on the situation. If I were leaving voluntarily, sure, no problem. Training is easy if the person has half a brain.

If I were being forced out, I'd do things like give the new guy the wrong alarm code and plant suspiscious things on him that would get caught by metal detectors. :p

I'd probably train them how to alter time sheets and show them all the good places to take 5 hour lunch breaks.
