Are you sure we have to pay it back? I thought the money would be given tax free.

I'm not saying the money isn't coming from somewhere, and that someone isn't indirectly "paying" for it, but I didn't think you had to report it on your 2008 taxes as taxable income.

Hell yes I do. I live a simple life without asking for handouts or being someone else's burden and as such and it's not my responsibility to feel guilty about their inability to manage their financial situation better or better look after whose hands are outstretched when they start tossing money to everyone too stupid, just as themselves, to manage their own financial situation better.

Simply put, whether I take it or not, that money will be allocated and handed out to SOMEONE, so I might as well not get "Milton'ed" and be left standing there with no cake.

i voted no by accident, because the title of the thread is misleading "would you refuse money from the gov't". how can you refuse this money and what good would it do if you refused it? to all the people who say its the principle of the fact, have fun, i will be paying down my car loan with this cash.

overall though? it won't help the economy and i don't agree with it in the big picture sense, but getting back our tax money never hurts!

I would take the money, no doubt. They take most of my money putting it toward things I dont agree with so why not do something good with the .000000001% they decide to give back? Should I not let them give me the(my) money so they can put it toward the war or something else just as worthless?

I'd take it without guilt because I know I will be using it to buy something I like which is how it is intended to be used. I read a brief summary as to why they are doing it, but I am not certain if it will work or not because I really am not convinced that enough people will just go buy something with it instead of paying off debt or saving.

Not everyone agrees but I bet they'll take it. As republican as my mom is even when she was in the middle of switching jobs she went to get her welfare checks, and it's not like we even needed the money at all.
