First off, $400 a day is probably a max based on a figure that happened ONCE- according to some panhandler, somewhere. Even the 'pros' - a pretty but scruffy-looking girl and a couple of kids in tow, just "needing a few dollars for food" don't even get that many people to stop and hand them money. The best of the best of those I could see maybe making a couple hundred on a good day. But the average scruffy male with no obvious dependents and sympathy appeal? Nah. That person is not making much money. (And no, most people don't count "I'm a homeless veteran!" in the same sympathy appeal as a pretty girl with some kids.)

IF someone is actually able to make $400 a day (or whatever figure) panhandling, more power to them. That'd actually be pretty hard work just being out exposed and uncomfortable all day- plus being hassled, arrested and chased from place to place by police (like they do here in ultra-lib California, home of "the compassionate" that is, until the needy show themselves on anyone's doorstep, then it's "HELP! POLICE! sweep 'em somewhere I don't have to see them!") etc.

Not worth it for anyone sane and able-bodied. Much easier ways to make money for most people.

There is simply no way that the panhandlers outside the Wal-Mart in Coos Bay, OR are making $300 a day. If you believe that, I've got some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell you.

I remember seeing this very old homeless lady in a parking lot is Sacramento dragging pushing her shopping cart in front of her. I swung my car around and found two dollars in my wallet, all the cash that I had. So I drove up beside her and handed her the two bills and stupidly apologized that I was sorry it wasn't more but it was all that I had. She immediately tried to give me back the two dollars telling me that if it was all I had I should keep it, to which I explained I had money but didn't carry much cash. I saw her later that month and gave her a twenty. Some people may not have money but may be rich beyond measure. I will treasure my stunned amazement at her inner beauty for as long as I live. A lot of you will live longer than I do. Maybe you will think of this story from time to time.

Yeah true, I guess it's more like those panhandlers who also play music or put on some kind of act. At least they're doing something and not just sitting there.
I honestly don't consider musicians or street performers "panhandlers". At least, they are going out of their way to make your life better, in exchange for a chance to make a few bucks.

They have them around Boston, and the better ones draw a fairly big crowd, (Like jugglers on boards on rolling things, in from of Fanueal Hall). I wouldn't hazard a guess as to how much they make, but it's got to be non-zero.

Sadly, this entitlement mentality is spreading. I generally don't mind giving to panhandlers unless I see them every day/every week, but now we have Lexus and Honda and Cadillac SUVs disgorging cheerleaders begging for cheerleading camp money and French clubbers begging for money for a trip to Paris. "My child has an opportunity to go to Europe." Yeah, everybody has an opportunity to go to Europe sweetheart, there are boats and planes going there every day. Wanna raise money? Hold a bake sale, have a car wash, freakin' DO SOMETHING TO EARN IT!

Agreed. Lots of musicians make their nut busking. I think it's an extremely honest way of making a living with music since you get the product before you pay, and I agree that it's not panhandling at all.

Yeah did not mean it in a bad way, did not realize there was even another word for that. Basically I meant anyone who is asking for money in public, whatever way they're doing it. I will more than likely give to those performing as at least they're doing something.

I am often tempted to give to natives as I just kinda feed bad for them, they're not all lazy or bad people. But they could at least put some effort towards it by standing in front of Subway, instead of the LCBO. lol.

Speaking of which, my son is going to Germany for a month next summer as part of his foreign language program. It is a hideously expensive trip costing well over 2,000 dollars. I have always considered you a close and dear friend on this forum. Given our long term relationship here on ATOT I was wondering if you would be interested in helping a kid with a bright future?.

I'd suck dick AS a job!

I'd suck dick for a dicksucking job which may or may not be forthcoming.

Nobody actually believes it. It's just degenerate propaganda; you know where they constantly lie because liberals love to "educate" them.

Obvious enough the situation when degenerates certainly aren't dumb enough to buy the panhandle kit.

Another thread the op started and never engaged in, lame op.
I agree 100%.

And the thread title begs the question so very much... just what do you have to do to get that $400 a day. Some people could be prostitutes and make over $400 a day but would decline to do so. Others could compromise their integrity and decline to do so. And the thread title hides the fact that the OP is talking about begging. It just might not be the most exhilarating way to spend your day. Lame ass thread. I am now going to unsubscribe, thank you very much... Muse out!

But the real question is whether you are working on your job skills to be prepared. :D

Seriously dude, you have been out of work for a long time. Are you taking advantage of free and cheap online training? You should be so qualified by now that employers find you irresistible. Unless your crime involved animals and Kentucky jelly, anyway.

You know, in many places there are free legal services that can get a conviction expunged if one has done the time, made restitution, and can show evidence of good behavior such as volunteering and community service. Have you looked into that?

There are also federal programs which give preference to long term unemployed. I have a friend who just did a year or two earning in the 80s doing clerical work for ICE. I don't know if your conviction would kill that.

Prepared for what, exactly? Humans can't compete with automated technology. The whole routine about education & training misses that central point. It doesn't create jobs but just increases competition for the jobs that still exist.

That whistling sound-

Nah, forget it. No one could hear anything that far above his head.

It wasn't over my head at all. Lots of people will prep & train for jobs that just aren't there.

Yeh, sure, a person can try to be towards the high end of employability but that doesn't address the larger societal problem at all. The Job Creators don't need nearly as many of us to do work as they once did, and that will simply intensify. Mere fact.
