Mobil 1's TrySyn is not the current formulation. SuperSyn is. TrySyn was phased out a couple years ago.Originally posted by: KokomoGST
I wonder why actually produces the oil for Walmart. Mebbe it is the oil blend of Mobil1 (before the current TriSynth blend which wasn't truly "FULL")

Why would someone be changing their oil in a BRAND NEW BMW 5-Series?? I thought they came with 3 years free maintenance?
Thats just proof that he is even more so an idiot!!!

I'm sure someone already mentioned this...but doesn't the dumbass know they change your oil and do EVERYTHING that needs to be done for free for the first 3 years or so?
There is a big problem.Originally posted by: Hammer
its a full synthetic. what's the problem?
No, it isn't.Originally posted by: Pepsi90919
so? supertech is made by pennzoil.
Sure, it's not bad compared to say, Castrol GTX, and Quaker State.Originally posted by: KEV1N
Supertech is not a bad oil, and their filters are good as well. Personally I use Castrol GTX but it's just preference.
There's not much that makes Wal Mart's products any worse than products you find anywhere else.

Does that count for ones that come over from Germany?
Your "expert" is out of touch with reality then. Any modern synthetic oil can be mixed with conventional oil and an owner can switch between the two at any point. What your "expert" told you has not been true since the 1970's.Originally posted by: KarenMarie
From an expert:
"as long as he gets the right grade, there will be no problem. Some reputable is making that oil for them. APIGL, SF, FE are all ratings on the oil. If he was using regular oil in the correct grade he cannot switch to synthetic and vise versa, but if he stays with what he started with, it is all good. "

BMW does come with free oil changes, but at fixed intervals. The first one comes at around 12000-13000 miles, so perhaps this guy wishes to change the oil at around 6000 miles.

Well, looks like I'm sticking to good ol' Mobil1... SuperSyn is good stuff.
Doesn't BMW and a few other companies have an agreement so that it's the "recommended" brand of oil for those cars? I know that it's recommended for Vipers, Vettes, and many other cars that I'll never own.

That's not true...I went to Wal-Mart about a month ago. I got some bulk pack of Remmington target rounds there. Now, I've found an on-line supplier who has better and cheaper rounds, so I have no need to go back to Wally World.
Parking my SAAB there was bad enough.
Much to my surprise, Havoline, Valvoline and Chevron make some excellent synthetics, right up there with the ultra-premium synthetics(AMSOil, RedLine, Neo).Originally posted by: KokomoGST

"A member of our board (Johnny) who works for Pennzoil (which owns Quaker State) has stated that the entrie line of SuperTech oil is (or was) made by Quaker State. "
"It's been awhile, but the origins of SuperTech oil have been thoroughly discussed on here before. This oil is made by QuakerState. Johnny, who works for Pennzoil (which owns QuakerStare, and both are owned by Shell now) has confirmed this. "
