I won't shop at places I don't want to support. Right now that includes kroger grocery stores. Its one of the cheapest in the area but I'll pay a little more and shop at schnucks. Kroger makes you use discount cards (which I've always hated from a privacy standpoint anyway) and I forgot mine once. now ever other time i'd been in there I'd seen the employees use one for other customers without it. I said I just forgot it and they wouldn't give me the discount. A minor issue really but enough to irritate me enough to not shop there anymore.

if you're getting an item cheaper elsewhere without pricematching CompUSA then chances are you wouldn't of been in CompUSA in the first place and so you're not really boycotting them.
I have not bought anything from AutoZone in over eight years.
I was driving through Gallop, NM when my fuel filter got plugged. they charged me 9 bucks for a fuel filter. (it was for an 87 toyota truck) When I asked the guy why so much he looked at me and said "Well where else are you going to get it?" I bought TWO filters in TN at a Napa for 2.33 each. I called the local autoZone and the price was 1.99 :Q I called The corperate Headquaters to complain when I got home and Was told that Yes I was over charged but "We are the only autoparts store in the area so we can charge more" and you were "broke down so it was still cheaper than a tow." and I "should be happy they were open at 4:30 on a Sunday". Never an apology.
They have a new autoZone opening ujp in my town. It will be just 6 blocks from my house and I will continue to drive across town to NAPA or Checkers.
I also will not shop at pep boys for some other reasons.

Personally I have better things to do then try and "stick it" to certain companies. I shop where it's cheaper unless the service is bad. Like the Target that was by me they would allways f-up the charges so I would have to go to customer service to starighten it out so I shop else-where. There is a Walmart 1.5 blocks from where I live it isn't really crowded so I go there for most odds and ends.

That's dumb. Large B&M's like Best Buy & Wal-Fart won't notice if they get your $10 or not. Look out for your interest, and save the money, get it for $10 regardless of who's selling it.

I don't think of it as "sticking it to the company" For me they just are no longer a place that I shop. I am very big into what people do FOR ME. I do try to shop where the price is lower or the service is better. I don't go to the local hardware store and ask questions so that I can run down and buy it for 10-30% less at home depot or Walmart.
We do most of our shopping at Walmart. The prices are good and the store is very close and my wife works there and we get 10% off on most items to boot.
I just bought a Camcorder for her Xmas and it was 100 bucks cheaper at walmart than at best buy. add in the 10% and I scored. The last two tv's and all three DVD players have come from Walmart. They were cheaper and the service is pretty good.
I look at my choice of shopping locals to be a value/convience/pleasure scale. Should someone RIP ME OFF I will not allow them to do it again. I don't send out letters or mass emails. I just quietly spend elsewhere. For me at least It isn't so much Sticking it to them as it is not allowing them to stick it to me.
I would assume the entire store is marked up because of their location, and you weren't exclusively overcharged. (National Lampoon's Vacation - "How much you got?") I've seen McDonald's in selective areas charge $6 for a Big Mac. That Auto Zone probably has a general philosophy of "where else you gonna go?" Still wrong, but I think it's an overall overcharge for everything they sell based on their location.

Actually it's not that wrong, based on captialism, it's just that almost nowhere else does it, so we feel at face value that autozone doing that is ripping you off. Naturally you were pissed at it, but they ARE the only ones there. Perhaps they're the only ones in the area because the area is not very good for that sort of business, and as such they can only operate there by jacking up prices?

Yes, I have a list of stores, restaurants, and other places that I don't go to. For the most part I am able to get everything I NEED from my local economy, but some things like computer parts I have to buy from corporations, but I can buy them through local stores. I also get DVDs from a local music store and to compensate me for my dedication to them I get things for cost. So yes, I stick to my guns and it annoys the piss out of my family and friends.
