I would most definately pay for the surgery, assuming that after healing, he won't be in pain. I would do it without a moments hesitation if it were my own dog.

$$$ 5G's for the dog no way... but I wouldn't let some vet kill him in the pound either. I would get the little guy some steak and painkillers and let him pass away nicely.

She's 6 years old and she's got another 8 years left in her. $5,000 out of pocket is worth 8 more years to me "IF" the surgery is guaranteed to work. I'd manage. I'd give up some frivilous crap, I'd stop eating out so often, I'd give up buying my little gadgets and stuff.

I care about her THAT much. Correct, she IS a dog, but she is a family member.

i agree.

just replace a pet right?

Perfectly healthy dogs are being euthanized because owner's like you don't want to pay to spay or neuter them.

So no other pet could ever "be as good" as the one you have now? Who is to say you wouldn't love it just the same, or it wouldn't provide you with as much joy.

And now I am accused of not spaying/neutering my dogs?

Are you really that daft?

My dogs were spayed and neutered ASAP.

Without the slightest hesitation.
What is money for, if not to protect those you love?

For me, with any of my pets, as it was with my wife, "for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, 'till death do us part."

Imho, there may not be a Joe God, zip code heaven, but there IS a divine and indivisible spirit; and when we, man or pet, act as each other's protector, THAT is the divine spirit in action, and we are all the better for it.

We made a pact long ago, did man and dog, and it is one of the most beautiful and wisest things we have ever done.

What an asshole fvcking retort. Your logic blows worse than YOU do, you feebe minded asswipe. :|

I just had to throw in a bit of truth after your idyllic post.

And I bet I love my dogs just as much as you love your pets, but seriously, this is 5K for an animal that will most likely not live longer than 12-15 years. The OP apparently really can't afford the money anyway.

I guess it all depends on how we are raised, because as much as my family loves its pets, we wouldn't ever spend $5000 on a pet. It just doesn't make sense when there are other dogs out there who deserve a good home just as much as the one you have now, and they don't need a $5000 operation.

Maybe if the dog was young and the operation had a very high rate of success I would pay.

Do you understand where I am coming from? No need to get so angry.

The "bit of truth" with which you were raised is as ugy and deficent as your logic.

I knew a guy who paid 6k for his dog to have leg surgery...he makes about 70k a year

He's got a special bond with his dog. He got in a car accident and the dog saved him and pulled him out of the car a few years ago.

Age of dog? Is the dog a purebreed and a source of income in some capacity? What's your income level like?

Personally, I've got nothing right now, so'd have to give up the dog, much as it'd hurt.

Depends on how old she is at that point. Right now? My pup (snoring behind me) is about to turn 6 so yes, I would spend the money. Four years from now? Probably not though it would absolutely devastate me.

I'm going to give her a hug now and wake her up. I'll blame you.

I would think the surgery would be justified in this situation. It's the least the guy could do for having the dog save his life.
