Would you Limit Yourself to 100 watts ...

... for their well ?

i tried to add a poll.

for those interested in energy technology and the
history of energy technology (details like oil-field
equipment maintenance), some URL's

http://www.energybulletin.net/index.php

http://www.theoildrum.com/

so, the poll i tried to put up is - if you knew that
their was a finite amount of energy in any given
year, would you limit your own electricity usage ?

i guess it means having a lower power Core2Duo,
a 7600 instead of an 8800, etc.

to say it's a false premise, that's an option i would
have added. this is approx. my first poll.

anyway, just curious.

False premise.

If unlimited demand and limited quantity it's gonna be either real expensive or government rationed (ala Venusuela).

I could reply better if I knew what amount of usage constituted 100w of electricity.
I just looked at a laptop transformer to charge it and it takes 100-240V with 1.6A, so 160+ watts, which means no laptop for you. You could charge your cellphone.

Not only no, but HELL NO!

What possible reason would I have for giving a shit about people in an overcrowded 3rd world nation, especially one that has taken so many American jobs?

The question is vague, but would your answer be the same if you had a picture of the actual family in their little hovel and there were a couple of kids (who by their nature have no control over their surroundings) who relied on this water to live and without it would die of some nasty illness because you didn't want to drop to 100W?

It's a good long term goal, IMO. Not for India , but for America.
Also, if you have solar panels on your house, you can probably do under 100w net power drawn from grid with good conservation and insulation. Solar technology is advancing to where solar panels will be much cheaper and easier to manufacture than current silicon based devices.

Nope...not a bit.

So you mean your answer would change?

Surely some of you older guys remember going to grandma's house and pumping a bucket of water? We did it here before electric power was ubiquitous. Why can't they do it there?

Problem solved.

"Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me... Truly I tell you, just as you did it to the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me." (Matthew 25: 34-40)

Good, however; that's for people who care about their eternal soul, not selfish pricks who don't give a shit about people in an overcrowded 3rd world nation, especially one that has taken so many American jobs.
