I wonder what would have happened had the actually managed to open the door midflight. Is it even possible?
The smaller emergency doors are about 2.5 feet by four feet (estimated). That puts them at about 1440 square inches. There's about a 10 PSI difference between the outside and inside of a plane at 30,000 feet. So that's about 7 tons of weight on the door. The larger door, where he most likely was is probably closer to 15 tons of weight.
I'm guessing thats a "no."

In that case a cargo door tore off. But even then, only a flight attendant died, all of the passengers (who had thier seatbelts on at the time) survived.Originally posted by: MikeyIs4Dcats
unless by chance potions of the cabin fail similar to the Air Hawaii deal several years ago.
IMO, there should be some sort of telemetry lock on those doors...i.e. they won't opn at altitude or if the plane is moving at high speed

It's not as much as being an e-hero as much as understanding how mob mentality works. Once the first move is taken, even if that move is incredibly dumb and poorly executed, others are likely to jump in. That's how riots start![]()

what does justice have to do with restraining someone so that the proper authorities can determine the correct "justice" at a later time?
what are you, a terrorist?

That's a lot of pressure indeed, but isn't the inside pressure higher than outside? Meaning it would be easy to open/blow the door out?

its not being an E-hero. at least for me its more of not wanting to die. I can take getting my ass kicked or getting cut. I live with daily pain from health reasons. its easy to ignore once you get used to it. heh
but death? OK I'm a pussy. i admit it. I do not want to die..ever. And if i see someone on a plane doing something I'm going to think back to 9/11. I don't want to be a human missile.

Promises to be a hero are worth less than the time it takes to make them.
The only heroes on that flight were:
1) the flight attendant who called for help
2) the first person who came to her aid.
The rest were opportunists.

I can't speak for the rest of ATOT, but I'm a closet psychotic nutjob just looking for a reason to completley snap into a murderous killing spree. I don't think I'd be able to contain myself in the face of terrorists, even at the risk of further endangering everyone. I'd just completley loose it. Ask anyone who knows me. I'm fvcking crazy.
