Why would you not eat the banana?

I might even bring in a jar of Skippy super chunk and slather some on the banana for that stance of dominance effect!

"There is nothing so delicious as a banana" --Sir Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881)

I have at least a dozen bananas in the refrigerator right now. 2 1/2 are ripe, the others will be put in my oven for a day or two when I deem appropriate where the pilot light will keep them warm enough and the enclosure will keep the ripening fumes around them long enough that they will ripen rather quickly. Then they are either eaten immediately or put back in the fridge, where they stay edible for much longer than at room temperature. I know my bananas (Cavendish, the type typically sold in markets in the USA).

Bananas are tricky. Don't stay ripe long and IMO they are best in a very short window of time. Still, I don't toss them if not perfect. I have some peeled (ripish) in the freezer for my banana nut cookies, the world's best cookie.

Unless the plan is making banana bread I wouldn't suggest chilling bananas.

Room temp or frozen.... anywhere in between causes premature "bruising".

I have tons of experience. Fact is, what happens with bananas varies quite a bit and since I know the parameters of how I'm treating them I have concluded that the variance has a great deal to do with the state the bananas were in when they were picked. There are other possible variances, like how they were treated from pick to purchase.

Best way to keep a banana "fresh" in a way where it's not like eating banana-flavor baby food I should have said lol.

If mushy over-ripe/over-sweet bananas are "good enough", who am I to argue? :tearsofjoy:

That's not how I like mine. I prefer a banana early in its ripe phase, when it has a definite tang.

I'm VERY picky about bananas. Too green? Nope...let them sit for a few days. a touch of green near the stem? Probably edible. A few sugar spots? Maybe still edible. Over-ripe? Toss them. (I have a strong dislike for banana nut bread or cookies)

It pissed me off to go into the grocery store and see this:

Too green?
I found out the HARD way that green bananas are bad. Definitely the worst odor I've emitted from my body. Had it happened in a public place, it would have caused a general panic. In an office setting, the entire room would have to be cleared. And I probably would have had to quit my job to spare myself the eternal ridicule of being the office stinkass. But apparently, it's really good for the intestinal bacteria and intestinal health. Definitely do it in a cabin in the woods. Or if you want your wife to leave you 😀
