Would you date a girl whose mother was HIV+?

The girl herself has been tested recently (say, within the week) and is HIV-. You don't know much about the situation, but you can surmise that living under the same roof contact could happen somehow, perhaps without their knowing. You're interested in this girl in a romantic way, so if she somehow got it, you'd be getting it...

Simply speaking, would you take the risk?

In the grand scheme of things, HIV is a *very* difficult virus to get. It requires sexual contact or exchange of bodily fluids. Unless mother and daughter are sharing intravenous needles or doing unmentionable things, there's virtually no possibility of daughter becoming infected.

In addition to this, they know the mom is HIV+, so they won't be doing anything even remotely stupid.

What risk? Obviously more HIV education is needed where you live...

Yeah, I know. I was trying to fashion a situation where the daughter might give her mother injections at home, but mostly think about the real world situation. It's your LIFE if it happens. Most if not all of us know how terrible the suffering is as well. Take more than a minute to think about it.

It's not a real-life situation, BoYGeNiUs.

Just a general survey of what people would honestly do in such a situation.

What risk???

Is the mother and daughter in a sexual relationship?

Are they drug addicts sharing needles?

Do they have blood sister rituals?

Man, there has been education about this for 20 years now, and people are STILL this freakin' ignorant?

The fact that 5 people so far have voted no just shows that ignorance will never stop.

The mother actually has more to fear from casual contact with you in terms of being exposed to colds, flu viruses that can overwhelm her immune system than you do from her.

Well, that's what I'm looking for. There must be people out there who believe that the sea has plenty of fishes, why cast your net on one with this addition "concern"?

By the way, we're all adults here. Keep your dumbass knee-jerk assessments to yourself, and try to respond to Yes/No to the question honestly. Jesus, it's like you need to write a two paragraph disclaimer about anything in your first post if you don't want to get stupid replies back.

Even if she did get it from her mother, the chances of you getting from the girl are about as good as you winning the lottery. Actually, you might have a much better chance of winning the lottery. HIV rarely passes from women to men...however, it's free flowing from men to women and men to men. Of course, this is assuming you aren't sharing a bunch of needles or blood transfusions.

Well depending how the mother contracted HIV. Chances are overwhelming that she either contracted it through IV drug use, prostitution, or having sex, usually wittingly, with someone she knew to have used IV drugs or prior homosexual relationships.

So while there is little risk of the mother infecting the daughter with HIV, would you date a girl who was raised in such an environment and by such a woman?

Yes. The girl herself is HIV-, so no problem.
28 (votes) 77.78 (%)
No. In my opinion, the possibility of infection is not worth the risk.
8 (votes) 22.22 (%)
What a joke!

"There are no stupid questions, just stupid people." 😛

I'm not bitching so much at you, as I am about the people who have voted no.

EVERYONE has baggage. To not stay with the one you love because a parent is sick is pretty freakin' stupid, IMHO.

("irradiated????" Gawd damn spell checker :| 😱)

TC, you haven't met very many women with HIV, have you? Or, at least, you haven't met very many women that you KNOW have HIV...

Chances are you've met a girl that you already like/love. Therefore you'd already know what kind of girl she is.
